Bass Control @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (11/28/15) [Review]

Review by: jdrightright

Saturday was a night to remember at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom. Rebudz and Reload presented a massive line up for the Denver bassheads. The show sold out from walk up sales shortly after doors opened, so a lucky few were able to sneak in getting tickets at the last minute. This show brought out Fractured Silence, Mizer & Goetz, Dirt Monkey, LUMBERJVCK, TrollPhace, and MUST DIE! The place was bouncing to gigantic bass the whole time and loving every minute.

A custom stage setup was installed for Bass Control using a Mylar wall as a mirror and a pair of lasers. It was a neat configuration in which the lasers were aimed away from the crowd and into a reflective wall. The lasers would then bounce back and create a stream of slightly diffused laser light over top of the crowd. Reflected lasers would also bounce another time off of the giant disco ball and spread out into more beams.

A lot of bonus producers from Denver were present at Cervantes on Saturday night too. No one was gonna miss this show if they were able to get downtown. Among the crowd were producers: Decadon, Vinnie, !Tyro, Shank Aaron, and probably more I didn't see. For Bass Control everybody was in the house and ready to dubstep before it was even ten o'clock!

Starting off was Fractured Silence a young DJ from Denver. He put together a great set and immediately set a tone that the night was going to be full of grime and heavy bass. Next to the stage was duo Mizer & Goetz and they knew what to do; kick out the wubs. This was just a taste of what was in store for the night.

Colorado's own Dirt Monkey went on just as the final tickets were sold for a capacity crowd. If anyone knows how to fire up a packed house it's Dirt Monkey, it comes naturally to him. I am always impressed with how Dirt Monkey will mix in between glitch-hop, drum and bass, moombahton, trap, and his own brand of dubstep. He pounded out some of his classics like "Imperial March" and he dropped a live remix of Rianna's, "Better Have My Money." Plus Dirt Monkey incorporated a bunch of brand new songs in his mix too. Having a guy like Dirt Monkey represent the booming Colorado bass scene is awesome because he's ultra creative and always representing for the hometown fam.

The next face-melter was LUMBERJVCK a California guy and the leader of the JVCKSQUAD. He put down an extra naughty set of mostly hard dubstep and trap. The crowd responded to every drop and a lot of the bass was pushing hard at the people with a powerful force. One song in particular that stood out was when LUMBERJVCK mixed in Drowning Pool's, "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" and the audience screamed the lyrics along with him. LUMBERJVCK didn't play anything chill, so we all just went hard as fuck for an hour along with the bass.

TrollPhace started off by loading up an array of heavy artillery. Then he jolted the room up another level with nasty trap and dubstep. His set was very sneaky, TrollPhace used the build up for one song and then right at the drop mix into the drop from a different track. Some of these quick drop transitions were completely unexpected and it kept the crowd guessing what might be coming next. TrollPhace was incredible live, he has an excellent ear for mixing two totally different songs and uniting them with a sicko drop.

The perfect opening song "Gem Shards" was how MUST DIE! got started. He has so many good machine guns and wubs in his live mixes. The place was bumping rather hard, and it was getting super hot with no one wanting to go outside for fear of missing out. At one point MUST DIE! was going so hard he had to take a knee and drink some water. He addressed the crowd after having a head rush from standing back up by saying, "I almost just died!" That would have been insane, but it was just a reaction to the altitude and the steamy hot room packed with humanity. MUST DIE! is totally on top of the dubstep game, and his musical ability is why he has connections with all of the biggest and best record labels in the industry. A good blend of hard songs and a few more melodic builds kept the room hypnotized until the very end.

This was honestly an overwhelming display of talent that Rebudz Denver and Reload Productions brought together for Bass Control. Also at a cozy venue, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, with a good size room and great vibes. I can't wait to see what is in store for the future events put on by both Rebudz and Reload. I have a feeling they will be epic, as always, because that's just how it's done in Denver.

Dec3mber & QUEST! - "Jumpscare"

https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000096237474-wqnpns-t500x500.jpg
Here's a sick dubstep collab track from Dec3mber & QUEST! just out today. This song is naughty, it starts all happy and sweet, but then just before the first drop you can hear it take a turn. A metallic robo build up and then boosh, the mean bass drop explodes with electrifying sound. "Jumpscare" is available to download directly thru either Dec3mber or QUEST! on soundcloud. You might recognize the record label too - Kairos Audio - founded by Dirt Monkey and Jantsen, check out the official website for the label here.

Jantsen & Dirt Monkey @ Mac's Bar In East Lansing, MI (10/19/14) [Review]

Things got a bit nutty at Mac's Bar this past Sunday! With news of the Bounce City Tour stopping in town, I wouldn't have expected it any other way. A killer lineup of artists I had never seen before continuously swept me off my feet with their unique ways of presenting some of their favorite tracks.  Fusion Shows - Based out of Michigan - seems to have developed a good idea for what artists people are wanting to see in these parts.

While this was my first show at Mac's Bar, I was very surprised by it's atmosphere. I wouldn't say it wasn't what I expected, but it had defined itself as a place of it's own. Providing myself, as well as the rest of the crowd, a very personal set from the artists.

Although I was unable to make it in time to catch The Bass Choir, I hope to catch them sometime soon in the area. As I walked in, the duo ANVBiS were setting up and ready to give us a show! Blasting us with their trap and bass music, the crowd was quick to catch on. Backed with a decent light show setup, it was a great way to start the night off.

Midway through their set Jantsen and Dirt Monkey showed up! I spotted Jantsen right away and introduced myself. Not knowing Dirt Monkey was standing right beside him, He introduced himself. The shaved head through me off for sure!

For those of you unaware of Jantsen, What are you waiting for? The veteran electronic artist clears paths others didn't know existed, yet remains unheard by the ears of so many. With his one of a kind sounds and style, there's no telling what you might get when you cross his path! Coming out of Boulder, Colorado, he continues to spread his music worldwide. After hearing about the recent collaborations with Bassnectar, it makes me wonder what is next?

Keep an eye out for LOCOJA. A newly announced side project created by Jantsen as well as Lorin himself. I asked Jantsen, "What is to come?" and he dropped Bassnectar's name. There could be a possible album coming from the two! When it will be released is still in up the air, but planning seems to have begun.

Dirt Monkey has built a strong very fan base! He has branched off from Sub.Mission and now he is building his own label Kairos Audio. Expressing his expansive combination of sounds, he made it look easy to put together. With my eyes glued, I noticed his style of mixing stands alone. Creating new sounds with songs already created by fusing them together at different speeds and times. I later noticed a stack of Dirt Monkey stickers that needed some love! Passing them out and tatting up the already decently inked venue with pink and black stickers was a job well fit.

Upon realization that the end was near, the crowd stood together expecting only a couple more tracks. Song after song we continued to jam out without hesitation for another half hour! With an energy level that couldn't be diminished, the two artists kept going at it! Including Dirt Monkey's "Tap Ho" remix as well as an unreleased Bassnectar track, it was safe to say they saved some of the best for last. All in all the show was awesome and a night to be remembered. I can't wait for them to return in early 2015! :)

Roksonix with Brown and Gammon @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom - Denver, CO (11-30-13) [Review]

Review by:
Justin D'Amico

The Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom was pounding grimy bass all night for the most recent Rebudz Presents show. The line up brought together artists from all over to give the Denver dubstep scene a night to remember. Roksonix along with Brown and Gammon co-headlined representing the UK and Circus Records. Jantsen and Tyro are both from Colorado and Midnight Tyrannosaurus is out of Florida. Dirt Monkey, another Colorado based producer was also in the building supporting Jantsen. The artists went well together having a similar musical style, mostly dubstep, but everyone brought their own flavor to the stage.
Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom is a medium sized venue in Denver, with a capacity of about one thousand people including the balcony. The layout is essentially just one room with a main dance floor and a balcony around the outside. For this show vendors set up booths with crafts and other merchandise under the balcony. The show filled Cervantes about half way, but the dance floor was packed for the entire show.

Starting off the night was Tyro a new resident DJ at Cervantes. Tryo got things going right away with some of his seizure bass music. Next up was Midnight Tyrannosaurus with jump drives of filth and two CDJ's to create a live mix. He, unlike many other live performers, uses no laptop to create his live mix. Both Tryo and Midnight Tyrannosaurus did a great job kicking off the night.

Jantsen was next and he brought a special guest MC along with him, Dirt Monkey. While Jantsen provided a killer mix, Dirt Monkey kept it hype on the mic, and he kept it cool up front with a CO2 gun. Jantsen has a wide range of styles which he transitioned between for a sick set. Jantsen is making a name for himself as a top notch producer, as is Dirt Monkey. The Colorado EDM scene is gaining a good reputation because of producers like Jantsen and Dirt Monkey.

Brown and Gammon would lead off a two hour block of British bass music. They are out of Essex, Britain and representing Circus Records one of the best labels in the UK. Circus Records was founded by Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, DJ Swan-E and Earl Falconer (of UB40). Will and Robin make up the band Brown and Gammon but live shows are done exclusively by Will. Robin is involved in the sound creation and studio recording aspects of the band. Live Will puts on an excellent show, his current set starts off with "The Force" an amazing opening track released just a few months ago. Brown and Gammon have a fresh chill style and also a hard dubstep style musically. They create a lot of new sounds out of vintage disco samples or make new noises intended to sound vintage. Brown and Gammon are a cutting edge EDM band with a bright future in the scene.

Roksonix would close out the show with a hard bass set. The band Roksonix is another duo, and they also come from Britain representing Circus Records. Guy and Phil make up the band, but for this show it was Phil only. They mostly represent a dubstep style, but some parts of the set Phil went into drumstep, drum and bass, and even some hardstyle beats. Roksonix does a great job at blending two songs together to create mash up style transitions. In the video above he starts by building up with his song "Feel Good", but then right at the end of the build he cuts to the drop of "Champagne Bop" by Doctor P. Roksonix completely slayed capping off an amazing Rebudz Presents concert at the Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom.
