Bass Station @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (3/12/16) [Review]

Saturday was another huge show put on by two of the best promotion companies in Denver, Rebudz and Reload Productions. The line-up had a little something for everybody with Aarbear, Detrace, SQUNTO, Crissy Cris, LAXX, and Eptic all on the docket. The show of course sold out, and for those who didn't have a ticket I feel bad you missed out on such a superb night.



First up was a local Colorado producer Aaron Jackson aka Aarbear, he was the winner of the DJ contest to open the show. He was met with a quickly growing crowd as the people rapidly filled the Masterpiece Ballroom. Aarbear represents Fort Collins with a hard dubstep/trap style. He did a great job getting the place warmed up.

The next producer Detrace is an awesome talent also out of Colorado and representing Denver. He caught my attention recently with a bunch of dope releases on Kill The Copyright. Detrace has collaborated with a bunch of up and coming producers too and with each new song he advances the game a little bit. I am a big fan of Detrace music, he uses a lot of my favorite video game sounds in his productions. Also Detrace is rather versatile with a wide range of electronic genres covered. Keep an eye on this guy he is going to blow up soon, mark my words.


SQUNTO the bass dragon got up on stage and immediately started breathing fire bass. He is an east coast producer coming out of Holliston, Massachusetts. SQUNTO is quite elite when compared to a lot of producers in how he prepares for a live set. I was able to talk with him a bit and he was explaining to me how he blends up to eight tracks for a single drop when he performs live! SQUNTO threw down such a naughty set, completely unpredictable, and extra mean bass pumped into the people's hearts.

The next set was a bit of a switch up with Crissy Criss and his sick jungle beats. I always enjoy having a nice variety of artists in a single show and for the most part the crowd did too. Crissy Criss had a few trick drops up his sleeve, transitioning sometimes into Drumstep and Dubstep to keep the people on point. Drum and bass is such high energy music and it always gets me bopping around the room. This was the first time I have seen Crissy Criss and I thought he layed it down like a boss.

The Never Say Die boys would close out the night starting with LAXX. He has been on top of the scene lately with a bunch of bangers and collaborations with everybody in the industry. LAXX has a hybrid style he goes in between trap, dubstep, and genres not even invented yet. He definitely has killer production skills, and he is also very good on the decks live. I have had the pleasure of hanging out with LAXX in the past and he is a very humble guy, focused on the task at hand; making the people bounce.


Eptic was the finale for this intense line-up at Bass Station and he mixed a brilliant set. It started off with a special fake-out drop that went right into my favorite song, "Spellbound" from his Immortal EP. You could hear everyone yell "I don't give a fuck" as that part of the track played. I love the music Eptic puts out into the world, it's very unique and his sounds are so crisp and clear. Eptic is also a graphic designer, and every monster or alien sort of image that he posts along with each song he created himself. He has been designing graphics of his own to accompany his live sets on the LED boards as well. Eptic is infinitely inventive and I can't wait to see what he has in store for his next release.

Bass Station was an amazing time, and lots of feels were shared with the bass fam. Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom has a mystical way of bringing people together united in bass. Bass Control @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (11/28/15) [Review]

Saturday was a night to remember at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom. Rebudz and Reload presented a massive line up for the Denver bassheads. The show sold out from walk up sales shortly after doors opened, so a lucky few were able to sneak in getting tickets at the last minute. This show brought out Fractured Silence, Mizer & Goetz, Dirt Monkey, LUMBERJVCK, TrollPhace, and MUST DIE! The place was bouncing to gigantic bass the whole time and loving every minute.



A custom stage setup was installed for Bass Control using a Mylar wall as a mirror and a pair of lasers. It was a neat configuration in which the lasers were aimed away from the crowd and into a reflective wall. The lasers would then bounce back and create a stream of slightly diffused laser light over top of the crowd. Reflected lasers would also bounce another time off of the giant disco ball and spread out into more beams.

A lot of bonus producers from Denver were present at Cervantes on Saturday night too. No one was gonna miss this show if they were able to get downtown. Among the crowd were producers: Decadon, Vinnie, !Tyro, Shank Aaron, and probably more I didn't see. For Bass Control everybody was in the house and ready to dubstep before it was even ten o'clock!


Starting off was Fractured Silence a young DJ from Denver. He put together a great set and immediately set a tone that the night was going to be full of grime and heavy bass. Next to the stage was duo Mizer & Goetz and they knew what to do; kick out the wubs. This was just a taste of what was in store for the night.

Colorado's own Dirt Monkey went on just as the final tickets were sold for a capacity crowd. If anyone knows how to fire up a packed house it's Dirt Monkey, it comes naturally to him. I am always impressed with how Dirt Monkey will mix in between glitch-hop, drum and bass, moombahton, trap, and his own brand of dubstep. He pounded out some of his classics like "Imperial March" and he dropped a live remix of Rianna's, "Better Have My Money." Plus Dirt Monkey incorporated a bunch of brand new songs in his mix too. Having a guy like Dirt Monkey represent the booming Colorado bass scene is awesome because he's ultra creative and always representing for the hometown fam.


The next face-melter was LUMBERJVCK a California guy and the leader of the JVCKSQUAD. He put down an extra naughty set of mostly hard dubstep and trap. The crowd responded to every drop and a lot of the bass was pushing hard at the people with a powerful force. One song in particular that stood out was when LUMBERJVCK mixed in Drowning Pool's, "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" and the audience screamed the lyrics along with him. LUMBERJVCK didn't play anything chill, so we all just went hard as fuck for an hour along with the bass.


TrollPhace started off by loading up an array of heavy artillery. Then he jolted the room up another level with nasty trap and dubstep. His set was very sneaky, TrollPhace used the build up for one song and then right at the drop mix into the drop from a different track. Some of these quick drop transitions were completely unexpected and it kept the crowd guessing what might be coming next. TrollPhace was incredible live, he has an excellent ear for mixing two totally different songs and uniting them with a sicko drop.


The perfect opening song "Gem Shards" was how MUST DIE! got started. He has so many good machine guns and wubs in his live mixes. The place was bumping rather hard, and it was getting super hot with no one wanting to go outside for fear of missing out. At one point MUST DIE! was going so hard he had to take a knee and drink some water. He addressed the crowd after having a head rush from standing back up by saying, "I almost just died!" That would have been insane, but it was just a reaction to the altitude and the steamy hot room packed with humanity. MUST DIE! is totally on top of the dubstep game, and his musical ability is why he has connections with all of the biggest and best record labels in the industry. A good blend of hard songs and a few more melodic builds kept the room hypnotized until the very end.

This was honestly an overwhelming display of talent that Rebudz Denver and Reload Productions brought together for Bass Control. Also at a cozy venue, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, with a good size room and great vibes. I can't wait to see what is in store for the future events put on by both Rebudz and Reload. I have a feeling they will be epic, as always, because that's just how it's done in Denver.

Hallowfreaknween @ National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado (Review) [10/31/15]

Global Dance Festival just put on their big Halloween Costume concert at the National Western Complex. This year Hallowfreaknween was a multi-stage event with four different stages set up through out the venue. Headliners galore in the main room including Deorro, Borgeous, Vinai, Mayhem, Antiserum, Kayzo, and Tuneboy.


The night got started early because their was so much talent to showcase. First up for the big name talent was Kayzo a Los Angeles producer, and he brought the room into a more monstrous mood. Kayzo just dropped a special Halloween banger called "FREDDY KRUEGER" and what a perfect place to pound it out. Kayzo has a number of different genres he likes to spin so he got into a bunch of kinds music to get the room going right.

The crowd was about ninety percent dressed up with some of the coolest costumes I've seen in a few years. The one that naturally caught most peoples attention was a guy in a Big Hero 6 costume chilling up front in the VIP. Another baller costume I saw was a full Marty McFly from Back to the Future part 2, complete with a hover-board and the futuristic clothes and hat. There is never a shortage of gorgeous babes at Hallowfreaknween, and this year was no exception. There wasn't a costume contest, but if I had to pick I would definitely go with the dude in the Big Hero 6 costume. He never got out of the suit and he was bouncing the whole night with the bass.

Mayhem and Antiserum came up to the stage and the place got all swagged out. This was definitely the illest set of the night having two amazing producers tag teaming with a ton of new banging beats to bump. They have a very unique spin on trap music mixing in some dubstep, and sometimes a little drum and bass. The constant blending of new glitches and old school party favorites made this such a good set. I am a huge fan of both Mayhem and Antiserum, so getting to see them together was a huge rush of positive happy energy. It was cool watching Mayhem and Antiserum work together on stage. They almost treated it like a rap battle, each one coming up with a song to top the last. This set was hard as fuck, and it wins the award for most hype and feels.


The next set was by a duo called Vinai, they are a couple of young dudes who know how to work a room. They release a lot of their music through Spinnin Records, a label known for techno and trance artists. Vinai had the room bouncing up and down to the music, and they did some of the favorites for big shows. One activity they had the crowd do was a sit down and jump up at the drop song. It was a very energetic set and the guys from Vinai showed some skills.



Girls love Borgeous and you could see them all perk up when he got on stage. He kept a similar style going with a big room trance and techno flavor. He as well as Vinai got into some Queen remixes including "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions." Borgeous has been building a name very quickly with outlets like his show on XM Electric Area and other media. In just the last couple years Borgeous has become a name that almost all EDM lovers know. He does a good job getting the crowd hypnotized into his sonic trance.
  

It was time for a legend to show the place how to get down on Hallowfreaknween. Deorro came out and immediately fooled the crowd starting to wind up his first track and it sounded like he was going to drop five hours. Nope, but he would get to it, all in due time. Deorro played a set similar to what I saw him drop at Decadence on new years. He got into some classic trancey bass and he spun some remixes of popular music like Oasis' song "Wonderwall." Deorro had a huge crew on stage with him, not for any technical reason, but just so he could have some friends to dance with. It was getting close to the end of his time so Deorro spun the CDJ and wound it down to just wavelengths, and then slowly sped it up more and more until just the right moment and boosh, "Five Hours." It was cool, even though we all knew it was coming it still was an epic drop and a brilliant finale to a great set.

The show closed out with a producer called Tuneboy and he made the room pulsate with hard-style and techno beats. I found this to be a bit overwhelming, The energy was at peak levels for Deorro and now we are supposed to turn up even more? Some people did and they got to rock out until 3AM. This was daylight savings night so at 2AM it became 1AM again. Lets just say the party went late and who cares what time it actually was. I was fulfilled and I think most of the people were too.

Hallowfreaknween was the very first show I ever attended in Denver back in 2013 and it remains one of the best nights of the year. Global Dance Festival always throws an epic party and everyone knows to be there or you will regret it. See you all next year when we get together again for the biggest Halloween Costume party in the city. Hope everyone had a happy Hallowfreaknween.

Backstreet Boys - "Everybody" (Apashe x Oski x Lennon Bootleg) - Song Of The Day - 6/22/2015

Happy Monday again everyone! Today I've got a fresh new bootleg that literally JUST came out. Initially I heard this during Milo & Otis' Ultra Music Festival set, and needless I couldn't get enough of the small snipped they allowed us to hear. Combined efforts from Apashe, Oski and Lennon have made this a perfect combination of a throwback and a banger. The first drop is massive, both fat and heavy with the synth following the same notes in the original. When you first hear it..... your just like(insert expletive here). As the second verse comes in, the track gains speed as an uptempo version of the first drop. It's got a more house type of feel at this point. It kind of reminds me of the sounds of "Deep Down Low". His music has been the climax of many other producer's live sets, and he has been nominated and awarded by multiple outlets for his productions. He really made a huge splash with "Turn Down For What" a club banger featuring Lil Jon. Then his fame grew even more with another giant track he released with Dillon Francis called "Get Low." This is the most recent blockbuster track "You Know You Like It." It is already so far reaching that it has been getting mainstream radio play as well as the big rooms and clubs around the country. GRMM ft. Father Dude - "Electrify" - Song of the Day - 5/29/2015

Today's song of the day is brought to you by awesomeness and dope production, starring GRMM and Father Dude. This song, "Electrify," was released last year, but still continues to electrify each time it plays. Father Dude is quite the talented vocalist, bringing the perfect airy, dream-like element to an equally ethereal, chill trap melody produced by Sydney, Australia's GRMM, who belongs to the record label Neon, while Father Dude is involved in the artist collective Hegemon, alongside artists such as Daktyl and Just a Gent. Father Dude, although a vocalist, has been making himself a name in the EDM world, working on projects and creating beautiful music with talented producers, such as TroyBoi and Slumberjvck.

This song in particular is one of my favorites of Father Dude's, the high-pitched vocals mix amazingly with the piano and synths, generating a soulful and eloquent finished product. Check for yourself below and enjoy!

They Say (Kilter) - Polar Youth Remix - Song of the Day - 5/16/2015 [FREE DOWNLOAD]

It is safe to say that this 20-year old Belgian producer has stolen my heart in the past week. Every track on her Soundcloud page is near perfection, and it was difficult for me to choose which one I liked best. However, once I heard the unique sounds of this remix, I was won over. It was nice to come across not only a female producer, but one that was a breath of fresh air, each song having their own beautiful harmony that mixed well with a future bass and trap feel.

Previously going by the name of Mary Trappins, Polar Youth runs alongside the likes of Laetho and one of my all time favorites, Pusher, having recently released multiple tracks with the artist, such as "YAY" and "Switch."

Rae Sremmurd - Come Get Her (Fransis Derelle Flip) - Song Of The Day - (5/11/15)

Happy Monday to everyone out there. Today's song of the day is a flip off of one of raps up and coming duos, Rae Sremmurd. Fransis Derelle is a producer from Salt Lake City who's been making music in all different types of genres. "Come Get Her" has a trappy twerk type of feel to it. He doesn't do too much work on the vocals, and just lets them ride out. Fransis Derelle has some great sound design in the drop also. The first drop has those low scratchy type sounds that scream grime. With the second drop he changes things up and gets heavier then before with a fat sounding synth.Throw on the rolling hi hats and thumping bass and you'll have everyone up and moving hard.
