North Coast Schedule is Out! -- September 4th-6th at Chicago's Union Park

NORTH COAST IS ALMOST HERE!!!!!!! :)

North Coast Music Festival was originally founded in 2010 by a group of independent promoters who came together to create an urban taste-maker festival of emerging and established artists from a diverse range of genres. Between them they produce hundreds of Chicago-based events each year, including multiple festivals in the Midwest, one off events at Chicago's premiere music venues, street festivals, and more, that attract thousands of fans and artists from all over the world. Last year, NCMF celebrated it's 5th year anniversary and sold out of 3-day passes for the first time, with nearly 60,000 people in attendance.

Check out the day-by-day schedule below! If you missed our last post with all the after parties & silent disco scheduled out for your easy digestion, check it out HERE.

Fighting fire with bass - the fire extinguisher of the future

Screenshot from YouTube

George Mason University, the infamous cinderella team that made it to the Final Four of the 2006 NCAA men's basketball tournament as an 11-seed, is making headlines again this week, but this time its not sports related.

Viet Tran and Seth Robertson, two engineering students at the university, unveiled a fire extinguisher that utilizes low-frequency sound waves instead of water, gas, or foam. It is thought to work through increasing the speed of the air particles within and surrounding the fire, in turn decreasing the surface area of the air at the point of combustion. Makes sense right?

Check out the video below to see this next level invention for yourself!

Umphrey's McGee Live at Lockn' - Set of the Day - 1/31/14

Tonight, the 31st of January 2015, Umphrey's McGee is taking over The Fillmore Detroit, and our we will be present documenting the event. This night marks a historic 10th show for me, and I really cannot fucking wait. There really aren't any other bands that get down and do what UM does for me. Here is just a small taste of what they can do, a live show from Lockn' Festival in Arrington Virginia from this past fall. This 28 minute clip opens up with "Puppet String" and proceeds to sandwich "Higgins" between the track. Twenty-eight minutes of pure ridiculousness. Turn those speakers up and get ready for some rawk! \mm/

Ross Pennock - "A Different Place in Time" - New Album Review [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Artwork By: Rachel Deichert
The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native transplanted in Denver, Colorado, Ross Miller, aka Ross Pennock, just dropped his newest album today, A Different Place in Time. This follow up to his 2014 album, Don't Stand Still, starts off strong with "Falling." Definitely not out of sight, and certainly not out of mind, he sets the stage for killer things to come through the rest of the album. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Dylan West, aka Dylan Jaymes, this album represents a progression of skills and a relentless desire to achieve great things by these two. This skill is ever-present in "Hardly Finished" where production and articulation of a vision come to the forefront. Catchy and powerful with a unique touch of glitchy bass-driven beats, the vocals by Ross are carried along while flawlessly keeping the listener entranced throughout its entirety. "Get Your Own" has an R. Kelly type of vibe to it, without the golden showers. I don't want to ruin the rest of the album for you, so I'm going to let you listen to the remaining songs and draw your own conclusions. Overall, this is great release by a good friend of mine that I only see achieving more and more because of his relentless drive to carve a name for himself in the music world. Cannot wait to see what the future holds for Ross Pennock and Dylan Jaymes. Available for free download through the Mile High Sound Movement bandcamp: HERE.

Ross' is hitting the webs on the 19th, while Ronnie's is yet to have a set release date. Orphic & Ill Dosage - "Galactic Cruise Control" [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Artists, Orphic & Ill Dosage, hailing from Detroit, teamed up with Swamp Music to put out their newest heavy hitting track. Crunchy bass, good drums, and all around great production make this one not to skip over. Currently living in Venice Beach, California, Orphic has been quietly pounding away and carving a name for himself within the electronic community. Don't be surprised to hear more killer tunes by either of these up and coming producers in the near future. What's even better about this track? It's up for free download through his soundcloud page.

Hours Eastly Release Handful of New Songs

Gainesville, FL based trio, Hours Eastly, recently released three new tracks to their Soundcloud profile - all of which are killer. This talented group is relatively unknown and not much of their music is on the web other than an album they released in October 2012, which can be found HERE. Set to hit the road with Iration in the coming months, these guys are likely coming to a city near you. For a full list of tour dates check out their facebook page.

The Smashing Pumpkins - "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" - Song of the Day - 11/14/14

This classic track off The Smashing Pumpkins 1995 double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, won the 1997 Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" and was the bands first Top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at 22 on the list. VH1 claims it is the 91st best rock song of all time and it claims the 70th position on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time" - whatever the hell that means. One thing we can all agree on is this track being a classic.

John Carpenter - "Halloween Theme" - Song of the Day 10/31/14

In 1978 John Carpenter penned the iconic theme song for the class film, Halloween. Seeing as it's Halloween today, we figured it was the perfect time to dust of the cob webs and let this track echo through our speakers. Hopefully you find it as creepy as we do. HAVE A GREAT HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!
