Electric Wonderland @ The Haus ov Wheres in Denver

Review and Photos by: jdrightright

Saturday night a sneaky underground music show was held at The Haus ov Wheres. This was a night of many forms of excellent music and a chill ambiance. Broken2TheWorld and Self-In-Flict-Ed came through with a diverse line up of DJs for the people. Three DJs aroused the ears: Jack Jack, Santospaceship, and Ampliphoniks. They all mixed a different flavor of bass, but all three were dope.

The stage setup was really cool for this show. Santospaceship not only DJs, but he is skilled also in design and production for Ill.uminate a visual design company. He loaded up the stage with lights, lasers, and even had a projector with mapping for his 3D booth design. It was very appealing to the eye. Behind the booth were two more zones that the projector also had mapped out for the purposes of 3D and specially designed images to be displayed on. The walls the projector would shine onto had shapes poking out at you. Mostly a sort of spike or pyramid type of shapes, but this went well with the projection cues specially created for the stage. It was really cool to see a custom light show in such an intimate setting.

The Haus ov Wheres also had a bunch of cool things around the building including keyboards, pianos, 808s and other old school music makers.  It made for a cool feeling to have a bunch of instruments around. The place is basically just an old shop downtown. They encouraged anyone who wanted to hula hoop or spin poi to do so as they pleased, and some of the crowd were really good at it.

First up was Jack Jack he played a lot of high energy music. He kept the heart beating for the people in the crowd. The audience responded well to his drops. Jack Jack really likes to engage the people by singing along to the track, and inviting the people to do so too. He got into some cool music that I know and love like Porter Robinson and others. Towards the end of his time Jack Jack started to get a bit more zappy with some cool electro drops. He did a great job on the outro as Amphliphoniks joined in the booth.

Chris aka Ampliphoniks was the crowd favorite for sure. He did a great job promoting the show and got a lot of love from his fans. He played for an hour and a half and the whole time the dance floor was packed. He came up with extremely inventive transitions going from one genre to another on a totally different spectrum, it was rather impressive. Early on he had a slick electro feel with squishy bass drops, I was reminded of Feed Me with that type of hype. Towards the middle he switched it up in some glitchy trap drops. Ampliphoniks was all smiles during his set, he seemed really happy that the people were reacting to his music as intended. Late during his mix Ampliphoniks had a speedy drum and bass section which was perfect for getting a second wind into the crowd. He set it up nicely for the closer of the night Santospaceship.

Santospaceship turned over the stage controls to his homie who just got there with a badass fog machine. He got into some trance and progressive to start the set, but then soon after changed it up and got into some dirty dub. For the most part dubstep was not played by the two opening DJs, and this was why Santospaceship wanted to change things up a bit. The stage was glowing and beautiful with a consistent fog so the laser and projector were enhanced further. One song I remember was a song with awesome Rick and Morty samples repeating "Sesh-wan Sauce" and then hard bass. It was a good change up to the room and a great closing set for the show.

I had a really fun time and met a bunch of cool people at this show. As of right now the next show at The Haus ov Wheres is still up in the air, but stay up to date with Broken2TheWorld for more Self-In-Flict-Ed shows that may pop up. Shout out to the underground squad, that was a great time and pleasant vibes for all. See you all next time.

Neckbreaker Tour @ Cervantes Other Side (5/21/16) [Review]

Review By:

Photography By:
Stetson Colt Mathias

The Neckbreaker Tour made a stop at Cervantes Other Side this past Saturday night. Once again Rebudz and Reload Productions came together to bring an awesome display of electronic music. The line-up included local talent Detrace, Coult45, and DJ Fury, as well as Tempest, and Habstrakt, with Dirty Phonics headlining. The moon was full, the Other Side was nearly sold out, and an energetic squad came out to rage.

The room at Cervantes Other Side is super intimate, there is no barricade in the front row so you are right up to the stage. You can basically reach out and touch the artists if you wanted to it's really cool. Rebudz brought out Surreal Laser to add some extra visuals. They had two lasers installed onto pillars on each side of the DJ booth and when the bass dropped the lasers zapped. Out back is a large smoking area with a wooden second stage structure. Early in the night out on the wooden stage, separate from the Neckbreaker Tour show inside, was a group of Christian rappers preach-styling. No one knows why.

Starting off the night was Detrace an up and coming artist representing Denver. He has direct ties to Rebudz and is a resident at Beta Nightclub. Detrace is a smart live DJ and also a very skilled producer, he got things started with some chill and melodic music and throughout his set he ramped up the hype meter slowly. I like how he puts his live sets together, he is very inventive and mixes clever transitions that blend two songs to create a whole new build up. You have to check him out if you haven't already, dude is ahead of the curve.

DJ Fury took the stage next with a special guest MC Dozha and he immediately got the collective heart-rate thumping with drum and bass music. His set also had plenty of dubstep and drumstep drops too, and MC Dozha added a bit of flavor with some freestyles on the mic. Fury always brings a massive arsenal of music, he has been around the electronic music scene for a long time. He is responsible for a lot of the amazing artists that come to Denver. Fury is a pivotal part in the Reload Productions machine, and he never disappoints. This set was extra dirty and dubby, which worked perfect to get the crowd kickin.

Next up was an impressive producer formerly from Colorado but now out in California, Danny Kim aka Tempest. I was able to chat a bit with Tempest and he's a really nice guy, always willing to talk to fans. I thought he might have gotten his DJ name from the old school Nintendo game, but he told me he had never played it. He makes deep dubstep and he put together a bangin live mix. The room started to really fill up during Tempest's set, and he got them all bouncing. Tempest did a lot of sneaky drops, where he would play the build of one song and then drop a much harder track. One drop that was exemplary united Zomboy and Flosstradamus with both drops playing at the same time. Tempest slayed the crowd and they kept coming back for more.

Coult45 took the controls and layed down a raunchy set with a trapstep, dubstep, and drum and bass. On select Gravity Fridays Coult45 is another DJ you can find at Beta Nightclub. He got his flow started with music from the new Cookie Monsta EP, and the song "Death Wobl." Coult45 used a lot of the new music I love to create this live set, so I stayed right up front. Some of the loudest bass of the whole night came out of Coult45's mix. Lots of finger guns were shot during this set and I was one of the shooters. Coult45 closed out his set with a drum and bass segment which primed the people for Habstrakt.

A special guest headliner Habstrakt from the Never Say Die Records crew joined the Neckbreaker Tour to show Denver how a true house DJ does it. Habstrakt has been pumping out the house beats for years and he is one of the pioneers of the rather popular bass house genre blowing up right now. Habstrakt accidentally cut the music right at the beginning of his set and he said, "Alright, I just made a big mistake, great way to start the night. I've got the biggest headache since 1972!" He is a comical guy on the microphone, and full of dance moves on stage. Habstrakt likes to jump-shift around on stage to the beat, and he makes it look like so much fun to be a DJ. During his set he made a point to shout out some of the producers that created the music he was mixing, producers like Eptic, DJ Snake, and Trampa all got props. Habstrakt spun in between house, dubstep, and bass house mostly but he covered almost everything. One drop in particular cracked me up, he built up to Zomboy's "Like A Bitch" and then right at the drop switched it up to Enya "Only Time." He then yelled out, "Enya!" It was hilarious to see the reaction of the people. To close his set Habstrakt changed gears and spun into some Moombahcore. The whole set was magnetic you had to get up bop around to the beats.

Dirty Phonics was the featured act on the Neckbreaker Tour and they showed us why they are so elite. The band started out as four guys all adding a little something different to their live sets. Just last year Thomas left the band so now it's down to three Charlie, Pitchin, and Pho. For this night it was two of the three Charlie and Pitchin, and they came just as hard as when it was four guys. Charlie was hopping all over the stage and built up a sweat, he showered himself and most of the front row with bottled water throughout the mix. Pitchin mostly stayed in the booth and kept the beats going hard. This was a bit of a different set than I would have expected involving a lot of genres other than drum and bass. Charlie and Pitchin blended into some dubstep, drumstep, bass house, and even trap. They played a new song of theirs still unreleased which crushed, it was a bass house and dub hybrid. The headbangers were going off for Dirty Phonics especially the girls in the front row. There wasn't much time for an encore but the guys made the people headbang with a metal-step track to close. After their set Charlie and Pitchin stayed around and autographed items for the fans, it's such a cool gesture for artists to come out after performing to meet the people who support them.

The Neckbreaker Tour came through with a rowdy night of hard bass. Cervantes Other Side hasn't been that vivacious in a long time. Denver very well may be the Bass Capital when we show out like that. Check out more of the ill photography from Stetsen Colt Mathias, and help me thank him for his visual documentation the night. It takes a special kind of promoter to put these events together, much love goes out to Rebudz and Reload Productions for all they do. More awaits Denver bass fam, stay sharp for show announcements, there are big things ahead.

Disclosure's New Album "Caracal" Is OUT NOW + New "Magnets" Music Video Ft. Lorde

Written By: Fabiola Belaen

Disclosure— an English brother duo consisting of house, UK garage, and funk— have recently released their new album Caracel on Friday. Disclosure used this new album as an opportunity to switch up their familiar electronica beats by focusing more on vocals and adding a slower groove to the tempo.

Disclosure also released the music video for “Magnets” featuring Lorde. This song follows the theme of slower tempo that Disclosure is focusing on in this album. The flow is quite different than Disclosure’s usual up beat electronica. What do you think about the new Album?

Simian Mobile Disco - "Hustler" - Song of the Day - [8/11/15]

Simian Mobile Disco is one of the illest production duos on the planet. The band is made up of Jas Shaw and James Ford two guys from the London, England area. They have a funky house style that is always a party favorite. This is "Hustler" a song from their debut album from back in 2007 called Attack Decay Sustain Release, an excellent listen all the way through. Check out more from Simian Mobile Disco on their official soundcloud page here.

Disclosure - "Bang That" - Song of the Day - [6/9/15]

The duo known as Disclosure has been on top of the deep house scene for a while now. They are from England and also brothers, Howard and Guy Lawerence. Together they get clubs all over the world bumping house. This is "Bang That" a naughty beat with a message, party until you pass out! Well, something like that. Go one deeper today as DJ Hanzel would say with fresh house at it's finest. You can stream more music from Disclosure on their official soundcloud page here.

Moon Hooch - "5-Sax Piece" - Song of The Day - 5/7/2015

It's Thursday y'all. You know what that means - the weekend is almost upon us and it is time to get rowdy! We have just the perfect mixture of jazz, sax appeal and improv beats to fill up your cup and get you turning in the right direction...up! Today's song of the day comes straight out of the New York City subways - yes you heard that correct. "5-Sax Piece" comes from the wildly talented three piece, Moon Hooch and their latest album "This is Cave Music." If you have yet to hear them play, imagine jazz/improv mixed with house and dubstep. Two saxophone players and a drummer produce a sound unlike anything you have ever heard. If you like what you hear, check out their SoundCloud...it is chalked full of great stuff!

Exmag and BRANX Ft. Kianu - "Map Of Foreign Lands" - Song Of The Day - 5/4/2015

Happy Monday everyone! Today's Song Of The Day combines the sounds of chill deep house and funk all into one. Kept at the tempo of a house track, "Map Of Foreign Lands" takes the best of both worlds. The floaty Exmag synthesizer sounds along with their signature guitar give a groovy feel to go with the low frequency deep house sounds. Branx is an up and coming artist who has had the opportunity of working with Exmag on a few occasions also. Together they bring a soulful relaxed vibe to their music. I love that this track has someone rapping in it. I always tend to gravitate more towards house tracks with some cool rap vocals or something a little bit harder then normal in them. Be sure to follow Exmag and Branx to keep up with all of their latest work. Enjoy!

Cory Enemy - "Go Deeper" - Song of the Day [5/2/15]

This is a bouncy deep house track from a great electronic music producer Cory Enemy. He has a lot of style rocking a huge head of hair that he often has standing straight up, and colored as bright as possible. Cory Enemy's productions cover a ton of different sub-genres of electronic including trap, electro, house, and more. He has a huge selection of remixes and collaborations with everyone in the industry. "Go Deeper" starts with a simple drum and synth duel melody intro and then builds into a full drop with a bunch of interlocking melodies. Deep house has become a very popular type of electronic music, with a huge following from people old and new to the game. You can get more Cory Enemy music by following him on soundcloud here.

REDLIGHT - "Gold Teeth" - Song Of The Day [3/9/2015]

We're taking a hop across the pond for today's Song Of The Day. Redlight has been known to make some great "housey" industrial type of music. Being featured by big names like Mija and even Jauz, this track has been creating major waves. As soon as the song starts, that infectious yet kind of mysterious voice comes in and takes you on a journey that is "Gold Teeth". The vibe is a bit dark but fits well with this type of music in my opinion. Another thing that Redlight really excels in is his drum work. I've always thought the difference between a good track and a great track is how the drums are mixed. Redlight, like in all of his tracks, has a great balance that lets the drums fit in really well with everything else. For those willing to take a bit of a musical dive into something a little different I think Redlight is a great eye opener and will give a different type of variety into your music playlists. Enjoy!

Skrillex - "F**K That" (Topi Bootleg) - Song Of The Day - [3-2-2015]

Today, with all the hype surrounding the new Jack U album, I figured I'd show everyone one of my favorite bootlegs to come from a Skrillex song. "F**K That" is one of my top songs to listen to right now and when I first heard this version it really stood out. Topi is from Finland and has done great work in creating both remixes and bootlegs. While the original has a darker, deeper vibe going on this bootleg is more energetic and up beat. Topi's take on this Skrillex track has seen great support already and with the work being put out it shows great promise. Check out this bootleg and see for yourself, Topi will be a big name sooner then you think. Enjoy!

KillaGraham - "Lifted" - Song of the Day - 1/29/15

Although today we don't hear much from the name, His music lives on. Currently partaking in the duo Milo & Otis, the talented dance artist flourishes more than ever. Being apart of the Skrillex Recess Remix EP as well as joining Sonny on tour marked a huge milestone for the two striving musicians. "Lifted" was premiered on UKF Music in September of 2012, which was a huge time for the movement of electronic music. Never Say Die never fails to put out good music and the Lifted EP is a sure example. The dated release holds a place in many playlists worldwide. Aren't familiar with KillaGraham? Be sure head over to his pages and tune in!

Breach - "Jack" - Song of the Day - [10-24-14]

This song "Jack" by Breach is one of the illest house tracks ever created. Everyone who spins house has this in a set, if not they are slacking. I've heard Claude VonStroke and a number of other house DJs drop "Jack" and it always kills live. It's just the quintessential house beat, and a great song to approach that sexy crush of yours on the dance floor. This is the official video for "Jack" and boy is it weird, although very interesting. Come on let's Jack!

Mord Fustang "We Are Now Connected" SOTD [7/7/14]

I love Mord Fustang, his style is super catchy and it always makes me happy to jam out with. For the most part Mord Fustang produces his own brand of house and electro-house music. He is hugely into video games and you can tell it influences his musical ideas. On soundcloud you can find portions of Mord Fustang's music, but if you want the full tracks check him out on spotify here.
