Desert Dwellers - "You Can See Forever (feat. Ixchel Prisma)" - Song of the Day [3/29/2014]

Today's Song of the Day comes from an electronic duo within the downtempo electronic scene. Incorporating a variety of musical styles and elements, Desert Dwellers have managed to create a very unique psychedelic sound. You Can See Forever is a tune that can't really be categorized in any genre. It starts off with an ambient soundscape layered over a hypnotic bassline while Ixchel Prisma's lush, mystical vocals float in the background. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the beat stops and some inaudible vocals fill the pause. After a few seconds, the bassline resumes along with a hip-hop percussion beat. Ixchel Prisma's vocals continue on and the tune slowly becomes an introspective, psychedelic journey. Desert Dwellers have truly succeeded in creating a song that captures the essence of many genres of electronic music such as ambient, dubstep, hip-hop, and downtempo; however, they keep the tone dark and very mystical. They are currently on tour with the legendary psytrance pioneer Shpongle.

Ronnie Weberg, aka Unlimited Gravity, has been making wave after countless wave in the EDM world in the past couple years - eventually landing him a spot on the 1320 Records roster. This is an older song by the young producer, yet one close to the heart. Hope y'all enjoy it as much as us ;)

"Be, I Do" by Nightmares on Wax- Song of the Day [3/27/2014]

Nightmares on Wax’s avatarBringing you a late night Song of the Day called for something a little more down-tempo, a bit groovy maybe, and just a way to change speeds.  Nightmares on Wax dropped this track on their "Feelin' Good" album last September.  Their wide range of sounds and exceptional ear for sick bass-lines, have made us fans. It's tracks like this that have us pulling one off the shelf, simply because it fits the mood (or my mood at least). This track makes me feel like I'm on the beach in the Caribbean somewhere, drink in hand, just livin'.  Not a bad daydream on a late March evening... anything but a Nightmare.

[Premiere] SrRealist - "Credulity" EP [EXCLUSIVE FREE DOWNLOAD]

Ikonic Sound and SrRealist proudly present to you, Credulity, the first release to come from this South Dakota native, Dan VanOsdel. With countless positive things to say about this EP, I decided to let the mastermind himself introduce this five-track blessing bestowed upon mankind on this glorious day.

"The following is a smattering of tracks that were imagined, written, assembled, recorded
and mixed over the course of a couple years while I dove feet first into digital music
production. Having only a background in guitar, I became increasingly excited as to what
possibilities the future could hold. This EP is really just the first good chunk I have made since
the start that im happy with. I hope to move on and further my understanding in this realm and
also to one day bring it to a performance setting.

Please enjoy.

The McMash Clan - "Requiem" (with Kate Mullins)

The McMash Clan is a group of three guys making spectacular sounds. This new track "Requiem" is a part of the latest Circus Records compilation LP Grand Central. "Requiem" is drum and bass at it's finest, a genre often over-looked by newer producers. The McMash Clan dabbles in almost all of the different sub-genres of EDM, and they create incredible music in each. Definitely go listen to the new Grand Central LP from Circus Records, and check out more from The McMash Clan here

Notorious BIG - "Everyday Struggle" - Song of the Day [3-25-14]

Possibly the best hip-hop lyricist of all time was The Notorious BIG. "Everyday Struggle" is my favorite track from the album Ready To Die. The song speaks the truth about the life led by a real hustler with a smooth classic beat. The Notorious BIG, also known as Biggie Smalls, told incredible stories in his lyrics. With his extensive drug vocabulary he brilliantly described situations he had lived through. Biggie was also a very humble man unlike many of the so called rappers today, he would rarely ever talk about his money or fame. The Notorious BIG was the superlative hip-hop lyricist right up until his death, and his music still holds up strong.

Korn - "Freak On A Leash" - Song of the Day - (3/24/14)

"Freak On A Leash" is arguably the biggest hit from Korn's 1998 album, Follow the Leader. Released as a single in early 1999, it is one of 2 tracks from the album that charted on Billboard's Top 100 list. Korn promoted the release of this album by headlining on the first Family Values Tour along with Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube, Incubus, Orgy, and Rammstein. Unfortunately that tour has only happened sporadically since then, however, we've still got all the music all these awesome artists have created for us.

Shpongle - "Divine Moments Of Truth" - Song of the Day [3/22/2014]

Psytrance has been one of the craziest genres of electronic music, if not the craziest. Artists in the scene are not at all afraid of breaking boundaries of conventional music and pushing their production software to the limit. Only in psytrance do we hear the maximalist sounds created by phasers, frequency shifters, grain delays, auto filters, and many other effects.

Shpongle, the biggest and longest lasting name in psytrance history, has taken the genre to new heights every single time they release a new album. Their most recent Museum Of Consciousness is definitely their best produced. It contains sounds I never even knew existed. Full with surround sound effects and versatile production overall, Museum Of Consciousness is one of the most cinematic albums I have ever heard. However, one cannot really appreciate how far an artist like Shpongle has come unless he has heard their very first works. Are You Shpongled? was released in January of 1998. It set the standard for the Psybient genre worldwide, and the song Divine Moments Of Truth became in itself a worldwide sensation. Starting slow with tribal beats and a low rumbling voice, Divine Moments Of Truth creates a very ambient, eerie soundscape. As the tune progresses, Shpongle very swiftly changes time signature, adds subtle effects, and creates smooth melodic loops, gradually increasing intensity into a monumental, overwhelming ending.

The Beatles - "Elanor Rigby" - Song of the Day - (3/21/14)

"Eleanor Rigby" is a song by the Beatles, released on the 1966 album Revolver and as a 45 rpm single. The song was written primarily by Paul McCartney and is credited to the Lennon–McCartney duo.

The song continued the transformation of the Beatles from a mainly pop-orientated act to a more experimental, studio-based band. With a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin and striking lyrics about loneliness, "Eleanor Rigby" broke sharply with popular music conventions, both musically and lyrically.

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pool (Unlimited Gravity Remix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Up and coming future glitch artist Unlimited Gravity just released his latest remix only two hours ago, and this time it's of the critically acclaimed Platinum Certified, "Swimming Pool'" by rapper, Kendrick Lamar. Unlimited Gravity starts off the remix just like the original tune, but as the track progresses, we start to hear his signature chainsaw wobbles fading in. When the beat drops, we hear a flawless fusion of Kendrick's mid-range vocals, thick crunchy synths, wobbly dubstep basslines, and a solid hip-hop beat. The most attractive part of this remix, however, is that it progresses like a story; there is no constant repetition like in many other hip-hop remixes. What we see instead is constant, but seamless, change. A steady wave of tension which leads to a satisfying, monumental end.

That 1 Guy Is Taking Over Cervantes' Other Side Saturday 3/22 - Preview

Written by: Jessica Frost
Denver! Get your groovin’ booties down to Cervantes’ Other Side on Saturday, March 22nd.  This is something you are NOT going to want to miss.  That 1 Guy and The Magic Pipe Present: An Evening of Musical and Magical Wonder… The Likes of Which Ye Haven’t Yet Seen tour!  Mike Silverman aka That 1 Guy, is a favorite of many North American and Canadian music festivals including but certainly not limited to Electric Forest, Wakarusa, All Good, and Montreal Jazz Festival.  His main instrument, a homemade gigantic collaboration of metal pipes, strings, beatpads, and looping pedals enables That 1 Guy to perform as a one man band.  Mike’s musical influences include progressive jazz, double bass, drums and tuba, funk, rock, and beatboxing while playing his magical pipe.  “So much of my music has miraculous qualities to it because it’s hard to tell what’s going on.  There are lots of slights of hand and sonic misdirection.  It feels like I was meant to do magic.”  Fun Fact: That 1 Guy actually does magic and its said he's performed small magic shows before some of his musical performances.  That 1 Guy is expected to put on an audio and visual performance unlike anything seen before!  Doors are at 8p and the show begins at 9p (event ends at 2a).

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 DOS and available at

Kanye West - "Hold My Liquor" - Song of the Day [3/15/2014]

While Blood On The Leaves may have been the restless climax of Yeezus, Hold My Liquor is definitely the depressing, sedating emotional pinnacle. Throughout Yeezus, we see production that ventures further than conventional hip-hop; for example, Blood On The Leaves is more Trap than anything else, and I'm In It and I Am A God are very much Chicago Drill. However, it comes as a huge shock to us when we hear Hold My Liquor because its production has no hip-hop elements whatsoever. It is, straightforwardly, acid-house.

Starting off with Justin Vernon slowly singing an anthem of sorts, the tune already stresses a very solemn vibe. Chief Keef, a very interesting collaborator since he represents the side of Chicago that Mr. West vehemently criticizes, continues with the same somber flow over a four-to-the-floor house beat but with more of a stressed stubborn tone. As soon as Kanye's verse starts however, we learn that this track is going to be an emotional journey telling the inner struggles he has on how he wants to live his life.

A cinematic masterpiece all with heavy synth phrases and guitar melodies, Hold My Liquor is The song that best describes Kanye's extremely fucked up life and the general lives of celebrities. But the most sobering message Kanye is trying to portray is that he can't win. He will never lose either though. Emotionally torn apart on both ends of the mental spectrum, he has come to accept his fate.

A drunken one-night-stand extended to a whole lifetime.

Jimmy Kimmel's "Lie Witness News" Hit the Streets of Austin, TX to Meet Up With SXSW Festival Goers

Jimmy Kimmel's infamous "Lie Witness News" segment took to a music festival for the second time - the 1st being Coachella last year - to trick SXSW festival goers into raving about acts that don't exist. The likes of DJ Metamucil, Neal Patrick Harassment, and Willie Nelson Mandela are apparently sure to hit the big times before too long.

Alt-J - "Taro" - Song of the Day - (3/14/14)

An Awesome Wave Album Art
English indie rock band, Alt-J, dropped their debut, An Awesome Wave, album in 2012, which included this masterpiece of a track on it. Specifially this song refers to Gerda Taro, "a war photojournalist in the late 40's/early 50's. She died in her line of work when a tank collided into the side of a car she was riding on. The other important name in this song was Gerda's romantic interest, and colleague, Robert Capa. During the First Indochina War, Capa retreated from his Jeep in a hostile war zone to take pictures. He stepped on a landmine however, which blew apart his left leg. He was taken to a medical station where he died with his camera in his hand." Having easily become one of my favorite tracks, I hope this hits you in the same place it did myself. The lyrics are down below the video - which features footage from the magnificent 1988 film, Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation -  for those interested.

Lyrics:

Indochina, Capa jumps Jeep, two feet creep up the road
To photo, to record meat lumps and war
They advance as does his chance, very yellow white flash
A violent wrench grips mass, rips light, tears limbs like rags

Burst so high finally Capa lands
Mine is a watery pit Painless with immense distance
From medic from colleague, friend, enemy, foe
Him five yards from his leg, from you, Taro

Do not spray into eyes, I have sprayed you into my eyes
3:10 pm, Capa pends death, quivers, last rattles, last chokes
All colors and cares glaze to gray, shriveled and stricken to dots
Left hand grasps what the body grasps not, le photographe est mort

Three, point, one, four, one, five, alive no longer my amour, faded for home May of '54
Doors open like arms my love, painless with a great closeness
To Capa, to Capa, Capa dark after nothing, re-united with his leg
And with you, Taro

Do not spray into eyes, I have sprayed you into my eyes
Hey Taro

Beck's "Say Goodbye" - Song of the Day - (03/13/2014)

Beck recently released a new album, "Morning Phase" and the whole thing is pretty amazing.  It may not be what you expect at first, but the down-tempo acoustic sounds are set to be instant classics.  Performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Beck is rocking an acoustic guitar and a tweed sport coat, a clear divergence from his "funky" persona from just a few years ago.  I can't help but think that these tracks have an old Americanna feel to them, drawing influences from singer-songwriters like Cat Stevens or Simon & Garfunkel.  Beck may have taken a step away from the unique sound that made him stand out in the past, but I can honestly say this album will not disappoint.  )

Pigs On The Wing @ Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom - Denver, CO - 3/7/14 (Review)

Review By: Justin D'Amico

Last Friday Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom was taken over by Pigs on the Wing, an amazing Pink Floyd tribute band featuring founding member of STS9, David Murphy. The show included a huge ensemble band to recreate some of the best music from the legendary band. What an awesome night of music.

Pigs on the Wing get their name from a Pink Floyd song of the same title. The song(s) "Pig on the Wing" comes from the album Animals, it's a two part track that opens and closes the record.

The band has 8 members, and for certain songs roles are switched up to recreate the amazing sound once championed by Pink Floyd. Typically the band is as follows: David Murphy on bass guitar, Matthew Weiss on guitar, Coley Dennis on guitar, Mike Albanese on drums, Alfredo Lapuz on organ and piano, Stanley Walker on synth, Timi Conley on vocals, and Chris Clark on vocals. Backing vocals are sometimes a group effort depending on the song, so nearly everyone gets involved on the microphone within their set. The band works really well together and is very careful in timing out different cues to properly recreate the complex music. Pigs on the Wing are very tight as a group, and they have a lot of fun on stage together.

The set put together by Pigs on the Wing was incredible, and it was almost three hours long! The gargantuan set was broken up by a short intermission, but still a performance that long was unexpected. Pigs on the Wing started their set around eleven and jammed out almost until two in the morning. The set went into a number of deep tracks as well as many of the well known Pink Floyd hits. Their version of "The Wall" really got the crowd going, and it sounded almost just like the album. "Money" was the re-joiner track to open the second part of the show after the intermission and it killed. Pigs on the Wing were brilliant live, and I will definitely be going to see them again whenever they decide to play another show. This show was their first performance since Electric Forest 2013 and they don't have anything else on their upcoming schedule.

Two Door Cinema Club - "What You Know" (Song of the Day) [3-11-14]

Two Door Cinema Club makes the catchiest music ever. Typically pop music is very formulaic and dripping with cliches, but not with this band. "What You Know" is not only a great song, but the music video is also very creative and visually appealing. Two Door Cinema Club has a great sound and they are one of the few pop rock bands I love. For more Two Door Cinema Club videos go to their official YouTube here.

Lupe Fiasco - "Daydreamin'" - Song of the Day - (3/10/14)

"Daydreamin'" is the 3rd single from Lupe's album Food & Liquor (2006) and features the magnificent vocals of soul singer, Jill Scott. The lyrics are a critique of pop culture,  the state of hip-hop at the time, and the realities of living in the hood compared to what they show you on TV.  Just an all-around awesome track.

Katy Perry - "I Kissed A Girl" (Unplugged) Song of the Day [3/9/14]

I know, I know little off the rocker with Katy Perry, but I'm a sucker for talent and this video delivers. Katy Perry is one of the most successful acts of today and she has the talent to back it up. This rendition is exceptionally good so sit back and let her smooth vocals take all your pain away.

Kanye West - "All Of The Lights" - Song of the Day [3/8/2014]

In 2007 when Graduation dropped, Kanye West instantly went from rap-star to pop-star. It took him only three albums to accomplish what Jay Z did in six. While Late Registration was arguably Kanye's best lyrical work, Graduation was overall a masterpiece in artistry. And because of that, a lot of the hip-hop scene thought that he could only go down from there. They thought he was at his peak, will be plateauing for a while, and will eventually fade away. Well, we all know that is not even close to what happened. After a series of very unfortunate events (including 808s & Heartbreak) concluding with the infamous Taylor Swift incident, Kanye took a self imposed exile to Hawaii; where he would proclaim that he is going to compose the best musical work the world has ever heard. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a cinematic masterpiece. With a sea of orchestral elements fusing effortlessly with signature Kanye percussion, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy changed the face of music forever. The most upbeat dance tune on the LP is All Of The Lights, which tells us in the most over the top way possible that celebrity life is nothing like what we personify it to be. It's actually way more extreme. Produced by Jeff Bhasker and Kanye, the tune contains elements of drum n bass, big band production, and symphonic melodies. It's probably been a while since you've heard this in detail.
Watch the insanely trippy music video...then watch it again.

Secret Panda Society is a production duo consisting of Rob Stern and Joe Benny. Their latest EP titled Kaleidoscope is an amazing four songs from a few different sub-genres of EDM. The new EP dabbles in glitch-hop, trap, drum n bass, and some drum-step too. So many sub-genres of EDM are done well by Secret Panda Society. The new EP Kaleidoscope is excellent, and I suggest you go peep it out right now.

STS9 - "H.B. Walks to School" - Song of the Day - (3/7/14)

Unlimited Aspect @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (Review) [3-1-14]

Review By: Justin D'Amico

Last Saturday was a big night at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, and The Other Side. The show featured Unlimited Aspect which is the combination of Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect. Cervantes' Other Side was also open with an equally killer line up including Up Until Now and Cosby Sweater. Both rooms were bumping with great music all night.

Cervantes' Other Side is a second room where shows are held separate from the Masterpiece Ballroom. The Other Side is known for Thursday nights which is a Bluegrass themed night. For the Unlimited Aspect show the middle door was open so people could get a taste of both sides at Cervantes. The Masterpiece Ballroom tends to host more electronic and hip hop groups, while The Other Side is more conducive to live bands and vocalists.

The Masterpece Ballroom was pounding futuristic hip-hop beats for most of the night. Gladkill and Sugarpill both got setup at ten o'clock and they did a sort of tag team set for two hours. The first hour was more dedicated to Sugarpill and the second hour was more controlled by Gladkill. The Sugarpill and Gladkill tag team set was slammin glitch hop beats and they kept the room hype.

Back over on Cervantes Other Side the room was grooving out to Cosby Sweater. The band is made of three guys: Richard "Sleepy" Floyd on the drums, Nicholas Gerlach on the Sax, EWI, and Keys, and David Embry rounding things out with vocals, live mixing, and production. Cosby Sweater puts on a hell of a live show, Cervantes Other Side was packed to see the trio.

Next up in Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom was Project Aspect, and he went extra hard. Project Aspect was leading the crowd in dance while mixing, he was bouncing all over the place. This high energy would be a theme for the room the rest of the night. Unlimited Gravity took the stage and the prophecy was fulfilled, Unlimited Aspect was on! For the performance gorgeous gymnastics girls entertained the eyes by dangling from fabric. Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect were electric together on stage and it translated into an incredible vibe in Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom.

The headlining band at Cervantes Other Side was Up Until Now, and a special guest was in attendance. David Murphy, formerly of STS9, was watching his little brother, Jay Murphy, perform. Jay is the backbone of Up Until Now, but for this show a live drummer accompanied him. The performance was enchanting with a smooth funky feel. Up Until Now was awesome at Cervantes Other Side and a great closer to an epic concert.

Unlimited Aspect put on a great show, there was a little something for everyone between the two rooms. This was the final stop on the "Triple Threat Tour" for Unlimited Aspect and they made it count. Cervantes' Other Side and the Masterpiece Ballroom was an excellent dual-venue for this one of a kind concert. I can't wait until the next time Project Aspect and Unlimited Gravity combine forces and give us more Unlimited Aspect.

"Lost and Found" by Pretty Lights - Song of the Day [3/6/2014]

Lost and Found:
An unreleased track from Pretty Lights' most recent release "A Color Map of the Sun" was released a couple of days ago.  It's gritty, jazzy, mellow and smooth. It's everything we expect from Derek Vincent Smith at this point.  This is one of those tracks that screams for a bean bag chair and the relaxation aid of your choosing. Time to get chill.

(EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE) Phaedosonic - "Connect" [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Luke Robison, who shall now be and forever known as Phaedosonic, is a Rochester, Minnesnowta native that was transplanted in Sioux Falls, South Dakota - yes people actually live in South Dakota - for a number of years developing his persona as a producer in the secrecy of his igloo. The first time he played this track for an audience, the heavens opened in my living room and angels descended upon us with faces washed by tears; for what the prophet Phaedosonic has bestowed upon these celestial ears was the most beautiful arrangement of sounds to have ever echoed the chambers of their inner lobes. (9)

"Connect" is Phaedosonic's first single and hot damn did he come out of the gates swinging with some sticky pounding bass, masterful progression, and top notch production in a track that is sure to garner some attention. When asked what his thought process was for creating this track he simply responded with, "What is love?"

That's something to ponder. What's not to ponder is downloading this track. It's too good not to. Phaedosonic invites you to give your feedback and share this track with all your friends. Let us know what you think! :)

The Crystal Method - "Emulator" Song of the Day (3/5/14)

America's answer to The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, have been developing hit after pounding hit since the early 90's. This is the first track off their newest, fan-funded, self-titled 5th studio album. "Emulator" brings you back to the early 90's funk underground rave scene. Turn up and enjoy this jam.

Duenday - "Fire In My Soul" Ft. Natalie Fine Song of the Day (3/2/14) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

I recently had the privilege to meet these three dudes and experience their music first hand. When first seeing a new act you never quite know what to expect, this blew all of my expectations out of the water. With two very talented lyricists and a mad genius on the tables this is one group you have to try. Be sure to check out the rest of their catalog on SoundCloud and give them a like of Facebook.

I Am Legion (Noisia X Foreign Beggars) - "Jelly Fish" - Song of the Day [03/01/2013]

Today's Song of the Day takes us forward, into the sound of future hip-hop. Noisia and Foreign Beggars have been rising in electronica and hip-hop, respectively, for quite a while now. It was only recently that they decided to join forces and produce an album together. Jelly Fish, one of the best produced songs on their eponymous debut LP, starts off with a walking-pace slow vibe hip-hop beat. However, this is unlike any hip-hop beat out there. Complete with dubstep wobbles, future sounding percussion, and pitch-bending synths this beat is very alien in nature. When Foreign Beggars start spitting, Jelly Fish is effortlessly transformed into a song with depth and meaning. We are propelled into the everyday life of Foreign Beggars, whose flow is synchronized perfectly with the walking-pace rhythm; their very down-to-earth verses contrast flawlessly with Noisia's extraterrestrial production.
With the release of their LP, I Am Legion is defining the future of electronica and hip-hop. They are currently on tour and will be stopping at Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Michigan to showcase their talent.
