Nick Thayer - "Totalitaria" - Song of the Day - [11-30-14]

This is a hard dubstep/electro track from Nick Thayer. He's one of the few highly talented artists representing OWSLA the label founded by Sonny Moore a.k.a. Skrillex. Nick Thayer makes awesome music with a ton of energy packed into the beats. "Totalitaria" is one of my favorite songs from Nick Thayer, it's one of those songs I blare with the windows down so everybody knows I'm listening to it. You can listen to a lot more from Nick Thayer here at his official soundclound page.

Korn - "Thoughtless" - Song of the Day - 11/29/14

http://33.media.tumblr.com/f5fbf89aee290e889c20e358f12eeb26/tumblr_nftwy0KEbQ1rcfxhjo1_500.jpg"Thoughtless" was released as the second single off Korn's 2002 hit-album, Untouchables. The plot of this video revolves around a young individual from high school who is picked on, beaten up, laughed at, and ridiculed with Korn performing inside the brain of the tormented boy. He seeks revenge throughout the video. The final scene shows him arriving at the school prom with an escort. He then vomits at those who had picked on him from across the auditorium, leaving them in disgust and humiliation. Some pretty intense stuff. Oh, and you might recognize the lead actor in this.

The Talking Heads - "This Must be the Place (Naive Melody)" - Song of the Day - 11/28/14

The Talking Heads released their live concert movie, Stop Making Sense, in 1984 and is considered by some to be the greatest rock film ever made. Here's a favorite selection of ours from that film, if you notice, David Byrne can stop moving his hands and is pretty enthralled by that lamp. Have fun :)

The Cranberries - "Zombie" - Song of the Day - [11/26/14]

This is a classic track from The Cranberries, you definitely know this song even if you aren't a big fan of the band. The Cranberries are probably the most popular Irish rock band ever. Just this Vevo post of the video has almost 200 million views and it's only been up for a few years. "Zombie" was originally released back in September of 1994 as a protest song in memory of those fallen in a bombing in Warrington. This is a throwback, but it still kicks ass today, so get riled up with The Cranberries.

Nitemoves - "Veaquis" - Song of the Day - 11/25/14

Today's song of the day comes from little known artist, Nitemoves. Spending most of his time as the drummer for Tycho, Rory O'Connor uses what little free time he has to explore the creative side of his own mind. Check out his soundcloud for some more awesome tunes your friends probably don't know about.

Sound Tribe Sector 9 is only gaining popularity since taking in a new bassist this past January, however, that doesn't mean they didn't kick ass before that as well. Here's some sexiness for you on this fine day :)

Stone Temple Pilots - "Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart" - SOTD - (11/23/14)

Growing up in the grunge rock era naturally Stone Temple Pilots are one of my favorite bands. They represent a quintessential grunge rock style very popular in the 90's. Other than maybe Nirvana, there really is no band better at firing me up. This song "Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart" comes from the album Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop the 3rd album released by the band back in 1996. This was a more experimental album for the band compared to the mostly hard rock music on the first two albums Core and Plush. This video is footage of the guys from around the same time as when they were producing the album. They locked themselves in a house/recording studio and busted out some amazing riffs. I will always love Stone Temple Pilots, they represent a great part of my life when I first started playing guitar in a band with my friends. This video is from the Official STP Youtube Channel, go there to check out more from this legendary grunge rock group.

LeMoti - "Hush Money" - Song of the Day - [11/22/14]

Ambient trap music never fails to strike a chord with me. As many artists try to grasp the concept, many fail to succeed. The very clean sounding roomy feel gives the perfect effect that sends listeners into the thoughts circling their mind. Songs like these can be listened to in many different ways. While a lot of people look at ambiance in a very uplifting way, there is a darkness behind it that gives it a unique setting in it's own genre. With the highly anticipated "Hush Money EP" dropping 12/15, this leading track gives a great look into what is to expect. Be sure to follow LeMoti for news and upcoming releases!

Savant & JELO @ Elektricity - Pontiac, MI [11/14/14] (Review)

The long awaited return of Savant to Michigan has finally been fulfilled and it couldn't have been any better. With buzz about his new album Zion floating around, It was very exciting to hear that he was coming back. Backed by SectionZ Records, Savant attracts a lot attention to the growing label. Wielding a very unique and powerful cluster of sound, he is able to wow any crowd with his in-depth variety of original music.

Anything is possible at a live show. From live remixing to incredible sound combinations, the show keeps your attention from beginning to end. While being new to Elektricity nightclub, the two artists worked together to provide an experience that both the crowd and themselves wouldn't forget. With local support from Fun Fakt as well as Food Fight, it was sure to be a night for the record books.

After both of the talented local acts were finished it was time for JELO to take control. Giving us an up beat set that got everyone moving. The veteran electronic artist gave a the audience a treat with his bangin' house and dubstep combinations. Setting up perfectly the subtle transition to the craziness that was to be unleashed by Savant. Earlier chatting with Savant, He mentioned his gratitude towards JELO's style of music and how greatly the two have come together to bring a show that flows fluently for fans across the globe.

The time had come and the mask The venue went quiet and that could only mean one thing. Anxiously awaiting the sound that would determine his opening song, I quickly prepared for the brutality up ahead. Continuously slamming the crowd with his out of this world mixing techniques, the energetic artist seemed to be having just as much fun as those supporting. Not having much time to say anything was no problem when it came to hyping the crowd. Showcasing some of the brilliance behind Savants upcoming album Zion, I was able to pick out and jam to a few recognized tracks from the album teaser. From what has been heard, this album will be one to tell your friends about.

As the night came to a close, Savant played 10 minutes over the closing time for a finale one could only dream to relive. I hold nothing but good words for both JELO as well as Savant. Their hard work gives us the music that gets most through their day to day lives. Normal people just the rest of us, but with dreams and goals that are unrecognizable to the eyes of most. With precise and accurate views on just about any topic, Savant shows his intelligence without even having to try.

As we restart the clock and patiently wait, we can only hope for a soon return from the Section Z crew. Special thanks to Savant, JELO and most importantly the man behind it all, Joshua Hernandez. Until next time!

M.I.A. - "Paper Planes" - Song of the Day - (11-20-14)

M.I.A. is a badass, she is very creative with her music too. This is probably her most popular track to date, a perfect hip-hop anthem released on Interscope Records called "Paper Planes." She is not only a singer/songwriter but M.I.A. also dabbles with painting and directing. She gained infamy from a so-called incident at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show where she was captured flicking off the crowd. I don't think I have ever seen a good rapper not raise their middle finger with excitement. There was no real outrage, those few loud complaining voices are the voices of fools. The idea that a few frames of a finger be considered outrageous is absurd to me, the politically correct culture is phony. We need to stop being tattle tales and just move on, listen to good music and let the artists be themselves. Big ups to M.I.A. she's a baller.

RL Grime, Branchez & Tommy Kruise @ Royal Oak Music Theater - Royal Oak, MI [11/13/14] (Review) + Void LP Release!

Review by: Trenton D'Amico

What a way of returning to Royal Oak Music Theater! The Void Tour made it's stop in Michigan for a night of unforgettable events. With much built anticipation, the week had come to it's end and it was time for the show. There were two openers that couldn't have fit any better. All of the current hype behind RL Grimes new debut album "Void" gave a very strong backing towards the uncontrollable energy level that was showcased. At the time of the show, the album hadn't been released and there wasn't anything that would stop me from getting a glimpse at what was to be expected!

Tommy Kruise was given the opportunity to help welcome the crowd to the world they were stepping into with his trancy hip hop beats. Without previous knowledge of his background I wasn't sure what to expect but overall it was a great way to start the night out. Recently putting out an 8 track EP titled "Fête Foreign", the up and coming artist out of Montreal has began to pave a way for himself.

Next we were given Branchez. A young and very talented artist. With his future sounding hip hop beats, he gave the setting a brighter look on the darkness that was to come. Being my first time seeing him play, I was very impressed with his music choice. A flawless combination that easily could hype crowds of all variation. Myself as well as many were hoping or should I say waiting for the remix that started it all. It's always nice to hear songs like "High You Are" live. With bright soothing lighting he played the melodic feely track we've all turned to at some point or another. Being left in awe is always a great way to endure the end of a set. The chill time came to an end as it always does, but next was RL Grime and nothing else seemed to matter!

With all of the lights on him, RL Grime took the stage and made it his own. Immediately giving us one of the best songs off of the album, Scylla was for sure a great opening track. The pyramid like stage highlighted the artist behind it all in a very simple and organized way. Song after song everyone stood in place attempting to understand what exactly was going on. The unique style of hip hop alterations kept the show interesting from start to finish. Being only days after the release of "Kingpin", it was for sure on the list of must hears. As his set came to an end, I was surely disappointed that I didn't hear it, but then he was called back onto stage to properly close it out! Playing "Kingpin" heated things up a bit, but then "Tell Me" followed and the place went crazy.

Although many are unaware, the very talented Henry Steinway is in more places than you think! While RL Grime strives greatly throughout the electronic music community, questions come about on the activity of his other persona Clockwork. Knowing that the day will surely come, we can only be curious as to what plans are on the table for the future of not only RL but Clockwork as well. We've been given more than we could ask for from the musically talented trap god and it's now our turn to pay it back anyway we can!

As previously mentioned, RL Grimes debut album just recently released and it's a must have! The 12 song collection holds a few of the greatest in the genre currently and is taking over music charts worldwide. Currently holding multiple #1 spots, this album is surely one to check out. Go over to iTunes and get your copy now!

There are still many dates remaining on the Void Tour and if you aren't already aware, it's a definite must see. For more information regarding tickets and info be sure to check out our previous post regarding the tour here.

Pink Floyd - "Another Brick in The Wall" - Song of the Day - 11/18/14

Pink Floyd just released their final album this month, which also happens to be the last album by the band. Although it doesn't have Waters in it, this does. This classic track of their iconic album, The Wall, takes today's spot as song of the day.

Tove Lo - "Habits (Stay High)" - Hippie Sabotage Remix - SOTD - (11-17-14)

http://media.tumblr.com/69735e109f3c0dcdb162c8f9f194b46f/tumblr_inline_mv0wxlioSF1rdzszf.jpgThis song is a perfect hypnosis for me, it sends me into a deep trance. It's so chill, but also talking about a topic many have dealt with. Trying to numb the pain of a past relationship with drugs and strange bed fellows. I have heard this version of the song much more than the original by Tove Lo, and I find this to be a brilliant remix by Hippie Sabotage. Go follow them right now! Check out Tove Lo the singer who created the original version of "Habits (Stay High)" too. Both are quickly building from the success of this amazing song.

Ween - "My Own Bare Hands" - Song of the Day - (11/16/14)

This song is "My Own Bare Hands" by Ween, a rock anthem for the American working man. Ween can be super goofy or spot on rock and roll champions. This song is more of the latter while at the same time listening to the lyrics will no doubt make you smile. I love this song, it's the soundtrack to the tough guy so typical in society today, always exaggerating and boasting. The best lyric of the song is regarding an overcharged machismo in this line, "She's gonna be my cock professor; studying my dick. She's gonna get her master's degree in fucking me!" This track comes from the magnificent album La Cucaracha released back in 2007. Get down with Ween music and more swag by checking out their official website here.

The Smashing Pumpkins - "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" - Song of the Day - 11/14/14

This classic track off The Smashing Pumpkins 1995 double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, won the 1997 Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" and was the bands first Top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at 22 on the list. VH1 claims it is the 91st best rock song of all time and it claims the 70th position on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time" - whatever the hell that means. One thing we can all agree on is this track being a classic.

High Maintenance - "Drop It" - Song of the Day - (11-13-14)

Hold on tight at the drop, this one goes extra hard! This is "Drop It" from High Maintenance the DnB junglist from Brighton in Britian. His beats are mean and dark using a lot of minor chords in the melodies. The bass is hard and the pace is fast, this is the type of music I like to listen to in the winter. Drum and bass music goes perfect with snowboarding, for some reason I always associate the two. This song "Drop It" is available to download for free directly through soundcloud, so go snag it up. High Maintenance has a bad ass DnB remix of the Virtual Riot song "We're Not Alone" coming soon so definitely stay tuned for that. Follow High Maintenance on facebook here to stay on the ball and for more swag.

Kill The Noise - "Dying" Feat. Ultraviolet Sound & Emily Hudson - SOTD - [11/12/14]

http://dj-rankings.com/tpls/dj/images/djs_logo/KILL_THE_NOISE_logo.jpg

Kill The Noise was one of the first dubstep producers to really catch my attention. It was songs like this one, "Dying" that became my obsession. There are so many incredible sounds and amazing use of vocals, ever since I have been hooked. This comes from the album Kill Kill Kill Jake's debut with the name Kill The Noise, he had previously gone by the name Ewun for his early works. Currently Kill The Noise and Feed Me are working on music together released through the label Sotto Voce Records. Both Feed Me and Kill The Noise are high on my list of favorite producers.

Nero - "Etude" - Song of the Day - [11/9/14]

Nero is such an amazing band, they make big room music with a dark side. I first heard this song live during Spring Awakening Music Festival standing on Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. It was fucking epic! The whole lower bowl packed and the entire field was full of people, massive show. That's one of the cool things to me about this song "Etude." Whenever I hear it I go back to that night on the field being overwhelmed with excellent vibes and musical magic. You have to see Nero if you ever get the chance, even if it's a DJ set and not the full live performance they do for some shows.

Dec3mber & QUEST! - "Jumpscare"

https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000096237474-wqnpns-t500x500.jpg
Here's a sick dubstep collab track from Dec3mber & QUEST! just out today. This song is naughty, it starts all happy and sweet, but then just before the first drop you can hear it take a turn. A metallic robo build up and then boosh, the mean bass drop explodes with electrifying sound. "Jumpscare" is available to download directly thru either Dec3mber or QUEST! on soundcloud. You might recognize the record label too - Kairos Audio - founded by Dirt Monkey and Jantsen, check out the official website for the label here.

Pyramyth - "Taco Bass" - Song of the Day - [11/4/14]

I love when a track is so good it just goes straight into a drop. That's sort of what Pyramyth does here for "Taco Bass" although this song has lots of drops and they progressively get sicker. William Gonzalez is Pyramyth and he represents Guadalajara, Mexico proud with a huge sound and mean beats. He has a few styles mastered, on the Pharoah EP he showcases his glitch skills, each track is intense and hard. Pyramyth has a shitload of awesome music, you can't help but bob your head to his melodies.  The whole Pyramyth Soundcloud is stocked up with monster bangers, some glitch, dubstep, drum n bass, electro, complextro, and all with one thing in common; sicko bass!

Daft Punk - "One More Time" - Song of the Day - (11/3/14)

The classic tune that revolutionized what dance music is today still carries on to please the ears of many. With countless remixes and edits, "One More Time" continuously is scalped to fit into any musical set. The two veteran musicians found a sound of their own and took it over. Building a strong fan base out of France, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangatler soon spread throughout Europe and then the World. While their recent album "Random Access Memories" is still growing, there is word of new music to come. Still haven't gotten your copy? It's available everywhere on iTunes!

Twistex - "Crystal" - Song of the Day - [11/2/14]

It's Twistex with another bomb track off his album Lume. This is "Crystal" a sick chip n bass track perfect for any hyper psychotic electro head. Twistex is one of the skilled technicians waving the SectionZ Records flag and making some awesome music. "Crystal" comes from Lume the newest addition to an excellent library of electronic music Twistex has built over the last few years. You can hear more glitchy good shit on the official Twistex spotify page here.

Tycho - "Awake World Tour" (Review)

Tycho in Bologna, Italy

A Review By: Troy Manley

Tycho, an ambient instrumental outfit based out of San Francisco, started as the brainchild of Scott Hansen. With a number of albums under his belt - Sunrise Projector (2004) and Past in Prologue (2006) - Scott released his third wildly successful album, Dive, in 2011 with the help of guitarist, Zac Brown. Scott and Zac began touring as a live band with backing from Rory O'Connor on Drums and Joe Davancens on bass guitar, keyboards, and synthesizers. (Check out Rory's side-project, Nitemoves) During live performances, Scott utilizes synthesizers, and rocks out on the guitar and bass, all while managing the visual programming of the performance; with Zac rounding things out on bass guitar and electric guitar.

Tycho in Hamburg, Germany

While performing, all the guitars are played live by either Scott or Zac, and the bass is also played live with the exception of the song Hours. Drums are played live by Rory, and the lead synths are also produced live on stage. Often times, Scott triggers samples with foot pedals while rocking out on his guitar. At every show they strive to maintain the intricate balance between the fluidity of a live show and loyalty to the sound of the album.

In 2014, Tycho released their 4th full length album, Awake, and went on a world tour to support it, playing 33 shows in 13 countries. Lucky enough to catch 3 of those shows in 3 different countries - Hamburg, Germany; Warsaw, Poland; and Bologna, Italy - Tycho has solidified themselves on my list of top groups currently touring. Working their way through some of their best stuff, they casually busted out Adrift, Apogee, L, Dye, Hours, See, Elegy, Past is Prologue, PBS, A Walk, and Spectre before calling it a night and heading off stage. After the roaring crowds convinced them to return, Scott came up alone and played a bass heavy remix of Awake by Com Truise - included below - before the rest of the gang would rejoin him onstage and nonchalantly go flawlessly into the original cut of the track. They would then finish up the encore with a favorite off their newest album, Montana

Tycho in Warsaw, Poland

The crowd at all three shows were very receptive to what these guys were doing on stage, and rightfully so. They played with precision and tact every time while maintaining a high level of energy (well, as high as you can while playing ambient downtempo music) and did an awesome job switching up the flow of the tracks to keep the crowds engaged. After seeing these guys 5 times total - Red Rocks 2013 w/STS9 & Electric Forest 2014 being the 2 other shows - it's easy to say that anytime these guys come around again, a certain someone will be in attendance.

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and check out their newest album - included below - and if you dig it, support the band by picking it up HERE and going to a show when they come near you. All in all, I give this tour an A++ rating. 10/10, would attend again.

Check out a video of "See" from their show in Hamburg, Germany below.

Here's the remix mentioned earlier.

Here's their newest album, Awake.
