The Rakes - "22 Grand Job (Filthy Dukes Society remix)" - SOTD [6-17-15]

A twist on a punk rock jam from The Rakes this version is slowed down by the Filthy Dukes Society. A lot is added to the remix including electronic elements, while also mellowing out the pace of the song. In the original version by The Rakes they have a much faster beat and different features to the song. The Rakes have a clapping section and the whole song is just about 2 minutes total. It's cool to listen to both versions to see a transition from indie/punk rock into a sort of industrial/new wave rock remix. Flithy Dukes Society starts the song the same way but the drums immediately set the tone saying that it's going to slow way down. Rock out both versions and see which one you like better.

The Prodigy - "Voodoo People" - Song of the Day [3/7/15]

The Prodigy was one of my first loves in rave music. They created a huge buzz bringing electronic music to the forefront. This song "Voodoo People" is also part of the score to one of my favorite films, Hackers. Their style is all over the place, they have songs in each of these sub-genres of electronic: Hardcore, Industrial, Rave, Jungle, and Breakbeat. For "Voodoo People" they are somewhere in between Industrial, Punk and Breakbeat. The Prodigy are still together and they are dropping a new album on March 30th to be called The Day Is My Enemy. You can pre-order the album, get merch, and find upcoming tour dates from the band on The Prodigy's official website.
