Listen: Tycho Releases Single, "Divisions" - First New Music Since 2014's Awake

Apart from the Awake Remixes, the likes of Scott Hansen and his Tycho crew (Rory O'Connor - Drums; Zac Brown - Guitar; Joe Davancens - Bass, Synth, Keyboards) have been fairly quite as of late on the new music front. It was no secret they were back in the studio and it was only a matter of time for something new to hit the airwaves and boy did they deliver in time for warm summer months. Take a listen to "Division" below and brace yourself for more new music in the near future (hopefully)!

NORTH COAST IS ALMOST HERE!!!!!!! :)

North Coast Music Festival was originally founded in 2010 by a group of independent promoters who came together to create an urban taste-maker festival of emerging and established artists from a diverse range of genres. Between them they produce hundreds of Chicago-based events each year, including multiple festivals in the Midwest, one off events at Chicago's premiere music venues, street festivals, and more, that attract thousands of fans and artists from all over the world. Last year, NCMF celebrated it's 5th year anniversary and sold out of 3-day passes for the first time, with nearly 60,000 people in attendance.

[Leftovers] Tycho - "Adrift"

Scott Hansen, aka Tycho, released his debut full length album, Past is Prologue, in 2006. It wasn't until 2011, a whopping five years, he released his critically acclaimed album, Dive. It was with Dive he made the transition to a live band and gave other musicians credits on the album. Namely, Zac Brown & Rory O'Connor. Although this album is stellar from start to finish, I always find myself entranced and enticed to turn up the volume when it reached this track. It's so easy to get lost in your thoughts while this masterpiece is slowly playing out in the background. One of my favorite tracks by one of my favorite musical outifts, I hope this track finds you nicely on this fine Tuesday afternoon.

Summer Set Music & Camping Festival Lineup Announced!

Summer Set Music & Camping Festival is back for it's 4th year in Somerset, Wisconsin at the Somerset Ampitheatre about 45 minutes east of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The lineup this year can hang with the best of them featuring Bassnectar & Deadmau5 as headliners. Not to mention Tycho, Action Bronson, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Lettuce, Lotus, Railroad Earth, Thievery Corporation, and about 10 other artists, there is definitely something here for everyone. Although not the most well run festival, and certainly not the most organized, the lineup make up for the complete lack of everything else this festival offers its patrons in the way of art installations, live art, and interactive activities. Oh well, let's just go out in the middle of a field for a couple days and have a gay 'ol time with your homies.

Kendrick Lamar vs Tycho - "Vibe Walk" (Break Science Remix) - Song of the Day - 3/4/15

Break Science took the best of both worlds and brought them together into this stellar track, "Vibe Walk." Tycho is arguably one of the best electronic outfits around right now. Kendrick, love him or hate him, is doing some huge things right now and it's hard to deny the hype. Had this track on repeat for about 30 minutes. It struck a cord with us, thinking it'll do the same for you. Enjoy :)

Tycho - "Montana" (Chrisopher Willits Remix) & "Awake" (Deluxe Edition)

Artwork for the Christopher Willits Remix of "Montana"
Tycho announced a forthcoming deluxe version of their most recent endeavor, Awake, just a couple of days ago just before releasing an awesome remix to Spoon's track, "Inside Out." Now, he gave us a stellar remix of "Montana" by another San Francisco based musician, Christopher Willits - who just got finished supporting Tycho throughout their 'Awake World Tour.' The artwork incorporates the single covers from his 'Opening' album. The track will be one of four new remixes featured on the Awake (Deluxe Version) available digitally on Tuesday, December 16th - streaming free below.

Spoon - "Inside Out" (Tycho Remix)

Austin, Texas based band, Spoon, released their first album in 1996. Almost 19 years later they released their most recent album, They Want My Soul. "Inside Out" is one of 10 tracks that make up their 2014 release, but Scott Hansen & Co. decided that just wasn't enough. After masterfully infusing the vocals from the original track into the Tycho flavor they have so carefully crafted over the years, us listeners are given an uncommon treat - a Tycho track with lyrics! A treat for fans new and old, sit back and enjoy this awesome abstract pièce de résistance. If you're in Australia or Asia, check out their tour dates below!

Tycho - "Awake World Tour" (Review)

Tycho in Bologna, Italy

A Review By: Troy Manley

Tycho, an ambient instrumental outfit based out of San Francisco, started as the brainchild of Scott Hansen. With a number of albums under his belt - Sunrise Projector (2004) and Past in Prologue (2006) - Scott released his third wildly successful album, Dive, in 2011 with the help of guitarist, Zac Brown. Scott and Zac began touring as a live band with backing from Rory O'Connor on Drums and Joe Davancens on bass guitar, keyboards, and synthesizers. (Check out Rory's side-project, Nitemoves) During live performances, Scott utilizes synthesizers, and rocks out on the guitar and bass, all while managing the visual programming of the performance; with Zac rounding things out on bass guitar and electric guitar.

Tycho in Hamburg, Germany

While performing, all the guitars are played live by either Scott or Zac, and the bass is also played live with the exception of the song Hours. Drums are played live by Rory, and the lead synths are also produced live on stage. Often times, Scott triggers samples with foot pedals while rocking out on his guitar. At every show they strive to maintain the intricate balance between the fluidity of a live show and loyalty to the sound of the album.

In 2014, Tycho released their 4th full length album, Awake, and went on a world tour to support it, playing 33 shows in 13 countries. Lucky enough to catch 3 of those shows in 3 different countries - Hamburg, Germany; Warsaw, Poland; and Bologna, Italy - Tycho has solidified themselves on my list of top groups currently touring. Working their way through some of their best stuff, they casually busted out Adrift, Apogee, L, Dye, Hours, See, Elegy, Past is Prologue, PBS, A Walk, and Spectre before calling it a night and heading off stage. After the roaring crowds convinced them to return, Scott came up alone and played a bass heavy remix of Awake by Com Truise - included below - before the rest of the gang would rejoin him onstage and nonchalantly go flawlessly into the original cut of the track. They would then finish up the encore with a favorite off their newest album, Montana

Tycho in Warsaw, Poland

The crowd at all three shows were very receptive to what these guys were doing on stage, and rightfully so. They played with precision and tact every time while maintaining a high level of energy (well, as high as you can while playing ambient downtempo music) and did an awesome job switching up the flow of the tracks to keep the crowds engaged. After seeing these guys 5 times total - Red Rocks 2013 w/STS9 & Electric Forest 2014 being the 2 other shows - it's easy to say that anytime these guys come around again, a certain someone will be in attendance.

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and check out their newest album - included below - and if you dig it, support the band by picking it up HERE and going to a show when they come near you. All in all, I give this tour an A++ rating. 10/10, would attend again.

Check out a video of "See" from their show in Hamburg, Germany below.

Here's the remix mentioned earlier.

Here's their newest album, Awake.
