Emancipator Ensemble National Tour (Preview)

By: Joe Lebeau
The sweeping melodies of Emancipator will be explored in a new light as Doug Appling, the mind behind Emancipator, is joined onstage for the first time by the Emancipator Ensemble.

The Emancipator Ensemble is a 4-piece live band, currently making their debut tour across America, and the addition of more live instruments to the beautiful music of Emancipator can only mean a richer, more rewarding musical experience. The Ensemble tour comes at the end of a big year for Emancipator, following the 2013 release of his highly-acclaimed third studio album, Dusk to Dawn, and numerous big-name festival appearances, including Electric Forest, Lightning in a Bottle and Global Dance Festival.
It’s hard to believe that music that is largely without lyrics can feel so relatable to listeners, but that is the exact reaction evoked by Appling’s work and is a contributing factor to his growing popularity. The sounds of Emancipator can all at once feel natural yet celestial, uplifting yet melancholy, familiar yet wonderfully refreshing. His music comes across as more of a personal dialogue with the listener than a collection of isolated works, and the passion Appling pours into the Emancipator project is evident in each note. This passion shines through during his live performances, making for an intimate and engaging musical exploration.

Supporting performance will come  from Real Magic a.k.a. Drew Englander, who labels his blend of grimey electronic riffs and soaring live vocals as “Experimental Pop”, and ODESZA, a collaboration project between producers Harrison Mills (a.k.a. Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (BeachesBeaches) that bring together dreamy soundscapes with glitchy vocals and goopy bass lines for a uniquely beautiful and very dance-able sound.

Music enthusiasts of all denominations will not want to sleep on this opportunity, so whether you’re a longtime follower or a curious newbie, get yourself to the Ensemble!
