Capital Cities - "Safe And Sound" - Song of the Day - [7/28/15]

This is a beautiful song from Capital Cities called "Safe And Sound." For a while I thought this was an Empire of the Sun song, and it is really similar to their style. This is the official video from the Capital Cities vevo. It's a full performance like one you would see for a musical on a Broadway stage. Mellow out and keep it chill today, even though it's going to be a hot summer day.

Lo Fidelity Allstars - "Battleflag" - Song of the Day - [7/14/15]

There was a certain time and place for electronic music to team up with everything else. It was somewhere in the mid to late 90's and I remember songs like "Battleflag" gaining huge popularity. Lo Fidelity Allstars brought a vast array of styles to the table, they were punk rock, electronic, and they kicked ass. Today they are no longer together, but their album How To Operate On A Blown Mind still holds up and serves as a good transition marker into the age of electronica. You can stream the Lo Fidelity Allstars music on spotify at the official band page here.

GRMM ft. Father Dude - "Electrify" - Song of the Day - 5/29/2015

Today's song of the day is brought to you by awesomeness and dope production, starring GRMM and Father Dude. This song, "Electrify," was released last year, but still continues to electrify each time it plays. Father Dude is quite the talented vocalist, bringing the perfect airy, dream-like element to an equally ethereal, chill trap melody produced by Sydney, Australia's GRMM, who belongs to the record label Neon, while Father Dude is involved in the artist collective Hegemon, alongside artists such as Daktyl and Just a Gent. Father Dude, although a vocalist, has been making himself a name in the EDM world, working on projects and creating beautiful music with talented producers, such as TroyBoi and Slumberjvck.
This song in particular is one of my favorites of Father Dude's, the high-pitched vocals mix amazingly with the piano and synths, generating a soulful and eloquent finished product. Check for yourself below and enjoy!

Crywolf - "The Home We Made Part II" (feat. Maigan Kennedy) - SOTD [5/3/15]

This is a beautiful song from Crywolf with amazing vocals from Maigan Kennedy. Crywolf is a Los Angeles based producer and musician, his real name is Justin Phillips. His talents also include singing as well, and he is the baritone harmonic voice on this song too. "The Home We Made Part II" starts very mellow and builds into a burst of wubs at the drop. Lots of strong feelings are invoked with music like this, that's why I like this song so much. Get more from Crywolf on his official soundcloud page here.

Sub Focus - "Tidal Wave" featuring Alpines - Song of the Day - [4/25/15]

This is "Tidal Wave" by Sub Focus, on of the finest London based producers out there, with a steady hand in the drum and bass culture. Most people have heard this song of one of the various version of it with it's massive popularity. I hear jungle DJs mix into "Tidal Waves" all the time, and why not, it's a masterpiece. The vocals are provided by Alpines, a beautiful and very talented singer. The lyrics are inspirational as well as perfectly delivered, it's mostly just saying that negative words are not going to hurt me, or crush me like a tidal wave. Get more phenomenal music through the official Sub Focus soundcloud page here.

Roni Size & Reprazent - "Brown Paper Bag" - Song of the Day [3/24/15]

When you listen to drum and bass music you have to understand the rich history. Most true junglists don't even care about anything else but drum and bass, everything else is irrelevant. This is one of the best drum and bass crews ever assembled - Roni Size & Reprazent. The lucky ones who get to experience their live performances are dazzled by multiple percussionists and flawless representations of amazingly complicated melodies. The main band members are Roni Size, Reprazent, Dynamite MC, and Onallee. This is the official video for "Brown Paper Bag" one of the biggest hits for the band off the album Newforms from back in 1997. Right now they are still touring the world and hitting the biggest destinations, throwing massive shows for their fans. You can get info on the tour dates, buy merch, peep photos, and more on the official Roni Size website here.

La Roux - "Reflections Are Protections" - Song of the Day - (2-11-15)

This is an awesome track from La Roux called "Reflections Are Protections." Most people have heard of La Roux because their self-titled debut album was so awesome. The band was made up of singer Elly Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid. They have since broken up, but their beautiful music still lives on.

Tristam - "My Friend"

This is a new one from Tristam perfect for a lazy Sunday lounge session. He brings a totally fresh style with this track, I might call it chill-step or something like that. "My Friend" also includes excellent vocals, possibly from Tristam himself as no vocalist is featured in the title. This is the most recent Monstercat release, they have a lot of talent at the Monstercat record label, in all facets of electronic music. Go check out Tristam and Monstercat for more awesome music.

Tove Lo - "Habits (Stay High)" - Hippie Sabotage Remix - SOTD - (11-17-14)

http://media.tumblr.com/69735e109f3c0dcdb162c8f9f194b46f/tumblr_inline_mv0wxlioSF1rdzszf.jpgThis song is a perfect hypnosis for me, it sends me into a deep trance. It's so chill, but also talking about a topic many have dealt with. Trying to numb the pain of a past relationship with drugs and strange bed fellows. I have heard this version of the song much more than the original by Tove Lo, and I find this to be a brilliant remix by Hippie Sabotage. Go follow them right now! Check out Tove Lo the singer who created the original version of "Habits (Stay High)" too. Both are quickly building from the success of this amazing song.

Kill The Noise - "Dying" Feat. Ultraviolet Sound & Emily Hudson - SOTD - [11/12/14]

http://dj-rankings.com/tpls/dj/images/djs_logo/KILL_THE_NOISE_logo.jpg

Kill The Noise was one of the first dubstep producers to really catch my attention. It was songs like this one, "Dying" that became my obsession. There are so many incredible sounds and amazing use of vocals, ever since I have been hooked. This comes from the album Kill Kill Kill Jake's debut with the name Kill The Noise, he had previously gone by the name Ewun for his early works. Currently Kill The Noise and Feed Me are working on music together released through the label Sotto Voce Records. Both Feed Me and Kill The Noise are high on my list of favorite producers.

Kito & Reija Lee - "Run For Cover" - Song of the Day - 10/30/14

These two girls create some amazing music, Kito on the decks and Reija Lee on the microphone. They dabble with multiple genres and add more flavor to anything they touch. I really like their moombahton style, but they do almost every electronic music sub-genre justice. This track "Run For Cover" comes from the Mad Decent Volume 1 compilation, an insane collection of kick ass electronic talent. Follow Kito & Reija Lee on facebook to stay on top of their tour dates and new music.

Greenskeepers - "15 Minutes" - Song of the Day - (10/27/14)

http://images.junostatic.com/full/CS1757810-02A-BIG.jpgGreenskeepers have an album called Polo Club that is just perfect. I have listened to it straight through a number of times. They are a total throwback band, retro sounding but with new ideas. "15 Minutes" is a brilliant spin on new age music, it sounds just like something out of the 80's. The band began as friends James Curd and Nick Maurer collaborated creating an awesome sound but also amazing vocals and excellent lyrics. You can stream the double album Polo Club the third album from Greenskeepers by following the link. Or check out more on James Curd's Official Soundcloud page too.

Baths - "Lovely Bloodflow" - Song of the Day - [10-26-14]

http://www.candidmusicgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/baths_maximalist1.jpgThis is a nice chill type of musical artist called Baths. This particular song has a lot of glitches creating a melody, but a lot of his music is rather mellow, and some use vocals or samples of spoken words. "Lovely Bloodflow" comes from Baths debut album Cerulean released by Anticon. This is the official music video through the Anticon youtube channel. Chill electronic music is becoming a popular sub-genre, not so much in the club scene but more so in cars and the background when people want to chat at parties. Satellite radio even has a station dedicated to it simply called Chill on channel 53 for XM. Baths is awesome, you can listen to most of his music on spotify here.

Battles - "Atlas" - Song of the Day - 10/16/14

http://dailybeatz.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/battles.jpegBattles is a very experimental style of rock band, they are all talented musicians that can go off on musical tangents leaving the listener wondering what just happened. "Atlas" comes from the debut album by Battles entitled Mirrored. The album name is very fitting due to the incredible use of patterns found in many of the songs. Battles sort of reminds me of Primus, using powerful banging bass slaps along with raw recordings. This is about as indie as you can get with rock music and vocals, just when it seemed like everything had been done before musically, Battles comes through with a new take on grunge music. Mirrored is a long song basically split into tracks, thus the abrupt ending, so you have to listen to the whole album to get the full effect. You can listen to the entire Battles album Mirrored here on Spotify.

HIM - "Pretending" - Song of the Day - [10/5/14]

http://gothicscenemalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/HIM.jpgHIM is an intense gothic rock band from Finland with a ton of great music. If you have seen any of the Bam Margera films - Ming Hags, Haggard, or the CKY movies they all use HIM music within the score. HIM is one of the only bands that goes into hard metal and also deep ballad type tracks. The lead singer Ville Valo is very smooth with his vocals, different than a lot of other rock bands where the singer puts on a tough guy voice. "Pretending" come from the album Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights released in Finland back in August of 2001. HIM has a total of 8 full length albums to date, go check out more from HIM here on spotify.

Bombfunk MC's - "Freestyler" - Song of the Day - [9/27/14]

http://img2.hebus.com/hebus_2003/04/30/preview/20030430190448_18.jpgThis is a classic beat from the bombfunk MC's called "Freestyler" and a really cool music video. The rasta style lyrics are an added bonus too, everyone listens when you have a cool accent. This song reminds me of Roni Size and Reprazent, another electronic/hip-hop group from the same time frame, back in the late 90's. This video is really cool, chronicling the day of a boy who has an all powerful music player that can manipulate time and space. "Freestyler" is also used in the film Haggard a goofy story about a dude dealing with a break up. Haggard is one of a couple films created by Bam Margera and it's stars the late Ryan Dunn. Go peep more by the Bombfunk MC's for some sick old school, fast beat, electronic music.

KATFYR - "Everybody"

Damn! This new KATFYR song will get you going, tons of energy and epic sounds. "Everybody" starts with an old school feel and builds into a monster electro drop. Then the second time around the build leads into a totally different drop, a more festival style or big room type of drop. KATFYR released this single "Everybody" through the brilliant label SectionZ Records, the best label in electronic music in my opinion. Go check out KATFYR on facebook for free downloads and more.

Hot Chip - "One Life Stand" - Song of the Day (9-19-14)

http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2009/01/hot_chip-cover-joy_division.jpgThis is a really cool track by Hot Chip called "One Life Stand," there's really nothing else I know even similar to this song. I first heard Hot Chip about the same time that MGMT blew up, so I tend to lump the two bands together. They are both very out in left field, but every now and then a pop masterpiece emerges. Hot Chip is definitely a hipster type of band, but I mean that in a good way. This song has some really interesting lyrics to go with the amazing music. You can listen to a bunch more Hot Chip music via Spotify here.
