Warren G- "Regulate" ft. Nate Dogg Song of the Day [12/11/13]

Warren Griffin III better known as Warren G came out of the west coast rap scene in the early nineties. Childhood friends with some of the biggest names in hip-hop at the time, Warren G was destined for big things. That didn't mean it was going to be easy, working full time and collaborating in his group "213" he spent every free moment working on his solo career. Sampling on "Nuthin But A G Thang" the stage was set. With his breakout hit "Regulate", a duet with Nate Dogg. A rap about the struggles of every day life in the ghetto of L.A. Even today, this rap still resonates with the public still struggling in those neighbor hoods.
This song will continue on the legacy of those fortunate enough to
make it big when given little to no support but from within.

Burial Releases New EP - "Rival Dealer"

Burial, one of the most respected artists in the electronic music scene today, just released his newest EP Rival Dealer. This is the second December in a row that Burial has released an EP, following last December's Truant/Rough Sleeper. Rival Dealer is a completely different journey than anything Burial has ever produced before.

The first track Rival Dealer is the most similar to old Burial works. It contains a fusion of jungle, breakbeat, and garage percussion. This track also has many ambient chopped up vocals layered over signature Burial distortion.

The other two tunes Hiders and Come Down To Us are very different from old Burial tunes. They do not contain any quick two-step garage beats but rather very slow R&B style percussion. Layered over are very down to earth vocals and floating chord progressions.

Rival Dealers is a complete change of direction for Burial in terms of technical sound design elements. However, anyone listening would know without a doubt that it is he who composed it. The atmospheric emotion is unbeatably transcending. The vocals are beautiful, and the percussion is ultra hypnotic. Rival Dealer is a musical masterpiece.

ENTER HERE
"Ask anyone who’s seen him live and they’ll tell you that Wick-it puts on one of the most high-energy, original and entertaining live shows you’ve ever seen. With successful headlining shows everywhere from California to Alabama, it is clear that the rest of the nation is taking note as well.

What makes Wick-it so special begins in the studio. Starting in 2010 with his groundbreaking Big Boi vs. Black Keys mashup album The Brothers of Chico Dusty, Wick-it’s thoughtfully fresh remixes have earned him a reputation amongst listeners as a producer that only puts out the highest quality of tracks. His ability to deliver in a multitude of styles earned him recent support slots for acts like: Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, Big Boi, Skrillex, Porter Robinson, MiM0SA, Three 6 Mafia, Yelawolf, PANTyRAiD, Girl Talk, SKisM, Borgore, Zoogma, Perpetual Groove, NiT GriT, Zeds Dead, Caspa.

One of the secrets behind his fan base’s rabid loyalty is that, although a handful of his tracks have recently been released under labels (and charted on Beatport), the majority of his music is available for free download on his SoundCloud page. With almost 2,000,000 plays and 500,000 downloads, it is clear people simply can’t get enough Wick-it. His musical approach is tough to pinpoint given that his roots are in hip-hop, but elements of dubstep, rock and house music have all made their way into his repertoire.

Wick-it’s most recent full-length release, Grindhouse Basterds, is a Quentin Tarantino themed hip hop, mashup, dubstep, electronic extravaganza. It features remixes of Apathy, Celph Titled, Bun B, Yelawolf, Aesop Rock, Murs, Slug, Notorious B.I.G., KRS ONE, RZA, Ghostface, and more.

With acts like Bassnectar, Z-Trip & MiMOSA now beginning to catch on (They’ve been using Wick-its original remixes as part of their current tours), it’s only a matter of time before Wick-it is propelled to the top ranks of his craft." - ACL Festival

STS9 - "Axe the Cables" (Live Acoustic 12.29.2009) - Set of the Day [12/9/13]

"In December of 2009, STS9 sat down in one of America’s most pristine modern opera houses on a chilly night in Denver, CO to create the inaugural “Axe The Cables… An Evening of STS9″. What this night encompasses is one of, if not the most flawless STS9 event in the bands decade plus history. The entire show was played, for the most part, sans all “electric” gear including the common stage instrumentation of laptops our fans have grown quite accustomed to. To say the event was a hit is an understatement. It was a night legends are made of. So much so the band has decided to re-cut, re-mix, and re-master this into one massive release."

BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac had the pleasure of premiering Dumont's newest single, "I Got U." Steel drums and awesome vocals bring this track home. Duke Dumont delivered once again.

Shpongle - "Juggling Molecules" [Song of the Day] [12/07/2013]

Today's Song of the Day comes from psytrance group Shpongle. Shpongle consists of Simon Posford and Raja Ram. Together, they are considered the creators of psychedelic trance and psychedelic ambient music. Juggling Molecules is a tune that is a perfect combination of emotional music and meditative hypnotic music. Through marvelous production with over 200 tracks, Shpongle intented for Juggling Molecules to be a musical masterpiece. Keeping true to their downtempo beginning, they start the tune out with slow, floating synth melodies layered over many percussion instruments and a heavy bass line. Halfway through the song, Shpongle turns the track into a straight club tune beat; however, the tone is constant but the emotion is ever changing.

The Widdler - "Spacetime" EP

The Widdler, a bass fiending producer out of Austin, Texas, is making his presence known with his most recent release. The Spacetime EP, out on OWSLA, "hosts an impressively diverse range of sound from the innovative producer, with extraterrestrial Drum N Bass found in the opening tune “Satúk” leading into the menacing snarls of Drumstep in “Odyssey” before finally wrapping up with a heady, galactic downtempo vibe in “Breathe.” Usually with eclectic EPs like Spacetime, it’s easy to pick out the artist’s strong suit genre-wise, but The Widdler really displays his knowledge of Bass music in all forms with this one."

Wax Tailor - "How I Feel" - Song of the Day - [12/6/13]

Today's song of the day is "French hip-hop/trip-hop producer, Wax Tailor, cover of 'Feeling Good' by jazz artist Nina Simone. The song was released as part of his debut album 'Tales of the Forgotten Melodies', in 2005 by Lab'oratoire/Undercover Records."

Heart's Big Band "Stairway to Heaven" cover - Song of the Day [12/5/2013]

We have all seen absolutely tragic covers of "Stairway to Heaven", more than we like to admit.  This one on the other hand is one of the most EPIC (and I hate using that word) of all time.  Played about a year ago by Nancy and Ann Wilson of Heart performed the song in front of the three remaining members of the original creators of the legendary tune at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony on Dec. 2, it made Robert Plant cry tears of joy.   Watch this to understand why...

Topher Jones feat: Katie Sky - "Talk About It" (K Theory Remix)

San Francisco based "K Theory is the trio of Malcolm Anthony (vocals), Dylan Lewman (sampling, live conducting), and Dustin Musser (Keys, sampling). This San Francisco based group has made serious waves and played shows all over the continent. With chart topping singles and major label released remixes, they are heavily respected amongst the intelligent bass and hip hop scenes," and this track shows why. Production talent shines through and brings in heavy hitting bass while maintaining  an undeniable catchy melody throughout. I definitely hit the repeat button on this track a couple times.

Haim - "Forever" (Giorgio Moroder Remix)

Robot voices, sexy synths, and beautiful basslines comprise this wonderful rework by legend, Giorgio Moroder. Giovanni Giorgio Moroder is an influential Italian record producer, songwriter, performer and DJ. Moroder is frequently credited with pioneering Synth Disco and electronic dance music. Yes, this is the same Giorgio that made an appearance on Daft Punk's latest album, Random Access Memories. In case you can't recall, here it is.

Mad Decent - "A Very Decent Christmas" Compilation

From Soundcloud: "Crunch, Crunch…Crunch, Crunch…. What’s that on the roof? Is it a burglar or a vagrant? A vacuum salesman or a Sasquatch? Damn look, it’s Santa on his sleigh with Kraang and the faded Jeffree’s mascot tossing out Christmas dub plates for the entire land. I think it’s safe to say that here at Mad Decent we caught the christmas spirit hard this year.  We  went all out and had our biggest tunes remixed by the artists themselves xmas-style for your pleasure.  Laid out here are some serious  xmas re-imaginings from Diplo, DJ Snake, Gent & Jawns, Juyen Sebulba, Astronomar and Kennedy Jones.  Also on the original side of thing, Vjuan Allure gives us a vogued out reindeer stomper with “RUDE OFF 2013” and Mitch Murder unleashes a fireside roasted chestnut R&B ballad with help from Santell." With all these big names this Christmas album better make it into your wheelhouse pretty damn quick.

Okiru - Golden Age (Prismatic Remix)

Yesterday, Prismatic released his remix of Okiru's Golden Age. Like many other Prismatic songs and remixes, Golden Age is broken down and layered with lush melodies and floating synths. Starting with a sweeping synth and heavily filtered percussion, Prismatic lays the framework for a very uplifting drum n bass tune. During the buildup, he continues the atmospheric nature of the tune; however, as the bass drops, so do the synths. Prismatic completely removes all high frequencies and flawlessly adds a heavy, fuzzy bass-line. Pretty sexy all around, definitely worth adding to your collection.
