Savant @ Beta in Denver, Colorado (Review) [6-11-15]

Review By: Justin D'Amico

Thursday was a special night for NRG Thursday at Beta Nightclub in Denver Colorado. The one and only Savant came through with an arsenal of amazing music. He also brought along his good friend and fellow mixologist Jelo. The two had the place bouncing so hard it was unreal. It was probably the illest NRG Thursday ever.

Opening the night was Sang Dinh a Denver DJ with a lot of style. He pumped out some techno and house beats to get things started. Next up was Cognition & T-Rav a duo also representing Denver proud.

The energy in the room went through the roof when Jelo came into the booth. As to be expected with his hyper beating heart electro music. Jelo is one of the best artists on Section Z Records, and he pairs up rather well with Savant. For this show Jelo let the afro flow out, and he has quite a head of hair. His headphones will barely go over his head right now!

Jelo is a very entertaining DJ to watch live, with his music he dances and instructs the crowd when to jump at the drops. He also does a great job on the hype tip, keeping the crowd fired up. At the end of his set he pointed out how stressful it is to open for a mastermind like Savant, but also that he loves how it keeps him on point to mix a unique set every night. Jelo also did a little introduction for Savant using his headphones as a microphone, a clever tactic many wouldn't know to do. He told the crowd "You guys are awesome sauce tonight!"

Savant came out a went right to work, he started with a mash-up of about ten songs in the first few minutes of the set. One of the incredible mashes was blending Daft Punk into the Beverly Hills Cop theme song. Then he went into DJ Dan "Renegade Master" mashed up with his brilliant Nintendo beats. From there Savant started to blast out more of his massive library of original music.

Savant got into almost every one of his albums at some point in the set. He did a lot of the music from his most recent release Invasion. Also taking us back into the days of Vario with songs like "Splinter" and "Hero From The Past." The coolest part was near the end of the set where he played "Melody Circus" and so perfectly slowed the beat down to create a new ending for the track live in the mix. The final song was one many were waiting to hear, the powerful track "Sledgehammer." He made a few adjustments to create a new feel for the crowd, and again he wound down the beat into an exquisite finish where the song slowed to a single note and faded out.

This was like no other Thursday ever before in my life. It was so cool to hear the beautiful sounds of Savant coming out of the speakers at Beta Nightclub. He made some of the naughtiest bass amplify through the room and into the souls of the people. I am excited for the future with Savant continuing to produce immaculate music at an incomprehensible rate of speed. Big shout out to Jelo for making the trip to Denver for this show, and everyone else who made this night so fun.

Jim Grim releases new album "Ifomi"

Jim Grim has completed the slow release of his latest album Ifomi on his soundcloud page. He has let us into his life with detailed descriptions of the meaning behind each track. Ifomi consists of 16 tracks with a special remix of the song "Luna" from Skepsis just released today. Ifomi includes a plethora of amazing music from a number of different electronic sub-genres. The classic Jim Grim style is typically futuristic glitch hop, but on this new album he gets into moombahton, drum and bass, dubstep, and trap as well. You can help support Jim Grim by purchasing Ifomi on beatport or itunes.

[Leftovers] Savant - "Up N' Smoke"

Oh my! Savant just dropped a bomb track called "Up N' Smoke" last week. This is a single that is a commissioned track not affiliated with SectionZ Records. The drop is a new type of moombahcore only Savant could dream up, and of course dazzling video game sounds blended in too. I can never get enough of Savant, and luckily he is never tired of creating new songs. The thing that makes Savant so amazing is his pace in creating new music as well as the detail in mastering. He is consistently releasing 3 or more albums a year, all while touring and putting out countless singles in between. Just search for yourself and you will find days of Savant music to listen to. Savant's soundcloud alone has over 200 tracks of his on it, and that's just a start.

Jim Grim - "The Perfect Dance"

Here's a perfect piece of glitch-hop music from one of my favorite electronic composers, Jim Grim. He, like many of the most creative producers today, comes from the SectionZ Records crew. "The Perfect Dance" is a little peek into the next album from Jim Grim, called Ifomi. His intentions are to disseminate this record a special way. Each song will be individually put out via social media outlets. Then once all 15 tracks are released Jim Grim has promised to make the whole album available for free. I am fired up to hear what Jim Grim has been working on.

He describes his motivation for the album and the meaning behind the title in the quote below.

"This album is dedicated to Ingelin FlÃ¥en Olsen, Aka IFO. The girl I love. The meaning of this album was originally not ment to be shared as it was kind of "private" or internal to understand, but whatever, I've decided I want to share it with all of you. Why? Well, I'm quite fond of sharing experience in general, and I can't really find a reason to not share it to those who are interested in reading about it. For all you others, just skip reading. Alright anyway, the album was supposed to cover a series of events that happened within in a period of my life last year. Each title is a small description, kind of in chronological order, of a situation or a flow of thought that I had during this experience. I'll tell you more as I release each track."   --  Jim Grim

Savant & JELO @ Elektricity - Pontiac, MI [11/14/14] (Review)

The long awaited return of Savant to Michigan has finally been fulfilled and it couldn't have been any better. With buzz about his new album Zion floating around, It was very exciting to hear that he was coming back. Backed by SectionZ Records, Savant attracts a lot attention to the growing label. Wielding a very unique and powerful cluster of sound, he is able to wow any crowd with his in-depth variety of original music.

Anything is possible at a live show. From live remixing to incredible sound combinations, the show keeps your attention from beginning to end. While being new to Elektricity nightclub, the two artists worked together to provide an experience that both the crowd and themselves wouldn't forget. With local support from Fun Fakt as well as Food Fight, it was sure to be a night for the record books.

After both of the talented local acts were finished it was time for JELO to take control. Giving us an up beat set that got everyone moving. The veteran electronic artist gave a the audience a treat with his bangin' house and dubstep combinations. Setting up perfectly the subtle transition to the craziness that was to be unleashed by Savant. Earlier chatting with Savant, He mentioned his gratitude towards JELO's style of music and how greatly the two have come together to bring a show that flows fluently for fans across the globe.

The time had come and the mask The venue went quiet and that could only mean one thing. Anxiously awaiting the sound that would determine his opening song, I quickly prepared for the brutality up ahead. Continuously slamming the crowd with his out of this world mixing techniques, the energetic artist seemed to be having just as much fun as those supporting. Not having much time to say anything was no problem when it came to hyping the crowd. Showcasing some of the brilliance behind Savants upcoming album Zion, I was able to pick out and jam to a few recognized tracks from the album teaser. From what has been heard, this album will be one to tell your friends about.

As the night came to a close, Savant played 10 minutes over the closing time for a finale one could only dream to relive. I hold nothing but good words for both JELO as well as Savant. Their hard work gives us the music that gets most through their day to day lives. Normal people just the rest of us, but with dreams and goals that are unrecognizable to the eyes of most. With precise and accurate views on just about any topic, Savant shows his intelligence without even having to try.

As we restart the clock and patiently wait, we can only hope for a soon return from the Section Z crew. Special thanks to Savant, JELO and most importantly the man behind it all, Joshua Hernandez. Until next time!

Twistex - "Crystal" - Song of the Day - [11/2/14]

It's Twistex with another bomb track off his album Lume. This is "Crystal" a sick chip n bass track perfect for any hyper psychotic electro head. Twistex is one of the skilled technicians waving the SectionZ Records flag and making some awesome music. "Crystal" comes from Lume the newest addition to an excellent library of electronic music Twistex has built over the last few years. You can hear more glitchy good shit on the official Twistex spotify page here.

KATFYR - "Everybody"

Damn! This new KATFYR song will get you going, tons of energy and epic sounds. "Everybody" starts with an old school feel and builds into a monster electro drop. Then the second time around the build leads into a totally different drop, a more festival style or big room type of drop. KATFYR released this single "Everybody" through the brilliant label SectionZ Records, the best label in electronic music in my opinion. Go check out KATFYR on facebook for free downloads and more.
