Mega Ran - "Splash Woman" - Song of the Day - [9/8/15]

If you want something to set off the nostalgia feels hit up Mega Ran. The style is a hybrid between chiptune and hip-hop, and it's so dope for the old school gamers. Often times you can hear bits and pieces of midi tracks used in the Mega Man games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The mastermind of Mega Ran is Raheem Jarbo, and he has a bunch of guest producers and musicians who collaborate under the Mega Ran name. Go to the official Mega Ran website for the latest on music releases and more.

A_Rival - "Styx and Stones (4-1 A_Rival Remix)" - Song of the Day [5/26/14]

This song "Styx and Stones" has been stuck in my head for weeks. A_Rival compiled a brilliant set of remixes inspired by the video game soundtrack to Crypt of the NecroDancer originally composed by Danny Baranowsky. The full version of the original soundtrack can be heard here if you want to compare the different styles. This is just one of the 21 incredible tracks that A_Rival has put together on the album Crypt of the NecroDancer : The Melody Remixes. "Styx and Stones" fires me up for a mystical journey, like something a Castlevania or Zelda game provides. A_Rival is amazing with their versions of video game themes and their original creations are just as epic too. Listen to this whole album it gets more and more ghastly as it goes. Get the full album and more here on the official A_Rival bandcamp, and support awesome chip-tune producers.

Bossfight - "Jet Stream Beam"

Calling all Junglists! Check it, the latest track from Bossfight is this ill Drum and Bass banger called "Jet Stream Beam." They also add a dash of my favorite spice into the recipe, Chiptune. Awesome video game synths and intense melodic blends make "Jet Stream Beam" a rich and powerful song. Bossfight keeps coming up with killer new beats, covering many sub-genres of electronic music, so stay on the up and up with the band by following them on soundcloud here.

Bossfight - "Glitch Gremlin"

One of the coolest glitch hop tracks I've heard in a minute. It's Bossfight with a brand new song "Glitch Gremlin" a rad twist of both chiptune sounds, and a hip hop flow. They are a trio from Sweden - Erik Sjöstrand, Robin Jensen, and Sebastian Persson all together they form Bossfight. Tons of nostalgia is built into their music, and I love it. I always unwind with some classic video games, and this sick bass puts me in a chill mood. You know what I'm sayin, just kickin it! Peep out more from Bossfight on their official Soundcloud, and on Youtube.

Virt - "Flowerguy's pool party" - Song of the Day [1/20/15]

Virt is one of the sickest chiptuners ever to manipulate the midi. I pop this music on when I want to jump in a time machine and go back to my Nintendo youth. Tons of Mega Man sounds make this track so enjoyable, plus a perfect mix of melodies. Virt is always good for a full 8-bit symphony, with multiple sections each leading to the next wave of new combinations. This track "Flowerguy's pool party" is just brilliant, you can't help but smile and bob your head to the beat.

Twistex - "Crystal" - Song of the Day - [11/2/14]

It's Twistex with another bomb track off his album Lume. This is "Crystal" a sick chip n bass track perfect for any hyper psychotic electro head. Twistex is one of the skilled technicians waving the SectionZ Records flag and making some awesome music. "Crystal" comes from Lume the newest addition to an excellent library of electronic music Twistex has built over the last few years. You can hear more glitchy good shit on the official Twistex spotify page here.

A funky bass line is such a powerful thing, it can literally force people to get up and dance. This is the "Osmium" by a very talented American producer George Shaw, he also goes by stage name AdhesiveWombat. He creates 8-bit symphonies and he is a genius with the electro-house genre too. You can listen to a ton of full quality music streaming on the AdhesiveWombat Youtube Channel. Or if that's not enough there is even more on the AdhesiveWombat Soundcloud page, and many of the songs are available to download for free. This song "Overworld" comes from an awesome Zelda themed EP entitled Triforce of Bass and it has a number of other chiptune artists represented too, like Spamtron. DJ Cutman hosts a weekly podcast called This Week In Chiptune where he highlights the best in the electronic sub-genre. The podcast consists of mostly a mix of the newest chiptune bangers from all around the world. On the label Gamechops you will find a bunch of nostalgic video game music re-imagined and re-vamped with new crispy sounds. "Overworld" is one of my favorites because of three reasons, it's chiptune style, the Zelda music, and the moombahton tempo. Trash80 - "Icarus" - Song of the Day (6-28-14)

Timothy Lamb also known by the stage name Trash80 is a producer who makes superb video game music. His songs are so well done, and in the style I find most appealing; 8-bit or chiptune. Icarus is a brilliant retro album, using great melodic synthesizer layers of old school sound, it's sure to send you on a nostalgic journey into your youth. At least that's what Timothy Lamb's music does for me. You can get a bunch of awesome Trash80 music for free through his official website here

Galarga - "Ghost Tower" - Song of the Day [6/20/14]

This is a sweet chiptune/trap version of the theme in the Ghost Tower of the original Pokemon games. This is a short song so feel free to listen to it multiple times like I did, Galarga is sure to like the extra plays.

Nitro Fun - "New Game" - Song of the Day [5-6-14]

One of my most recent obsessions is this very young producer Gustavo Rangel aka Nitro Fun. Gustavo is just 16 years old hailing from Mexico and he has already released music with the label Monstercat, a huge name in EDM. He describes his music as Funplextro, which is fitting with his complex layers of melodies and fun Nintendo sounds. If you like chiptune or 8-bit music you have to check out more of Nitro Fun, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers.

Benjamin Briggs - "Trash FM" (Song of the Day) [2-18-14]

Benjamin Briggs is one of my favorite people as well as an amazing music producer. He creates original songs and incredible video game remixes. Ben also has a popular channel on Twitch.tv where he plays video games and interacts with viewers. He is hilarious and very witty, which makes his show rather entertaining. For special episodes Ben produces music live and gives a sort of tutorial of how he creates music. "Trash FM" is my favorite track by Benjamin Briggs, it is a prime example of his brilliant chiptune music. For more Benjamin Briggs downloads you can go to his official website here BenBriggs.net. And make sure to check out his live stream on Twitch.tv here.

Jim Grim - "Staircase to Hell LP"

Jim Grim is probably a new name to most people, but with songs like his it's only a matter of time before he blows up. Jim Grim is from Norway a hot spot for excellent new EDM, with artists like Savant and Twistex also emerging from there. A similar style comes from all three as well, a sort of chiptune/dubstep. Jim Grim released "Staircase To Hell" on his own, unable to get backing from SectionZ Records, the label Savant and Twistex are signed with. Nevertheless the album is amazing with 14 unique tracks of multiple different EDM genres including glitch-hop, electro-house and dubstep. Check out Jim Grim's soundcloud page for more electrifying music, many of the his songs are available for free download.

"Matchbox" by Dub Scout

One of my favorite styles of EDM has always been the chiptune or 8-bit genre. Chiptune producers will remix video game tracks and give them a new feel, or sometimes they create brand new songs. The genre has been progressing constantly, and with advances in recording and sampling the old glitch Nintendo sounds can be mastered to crystal clarity. Dub Scout has created an original chiptune in "Matchbox" using classic 8-bit noises and mixing them with newer sounds for an innovative blend.
